So after 10 years Ive decided enough is enough ! (owners before)

Outside light (front) is connected directly to the mains and only comes on if someone walks past (PIR) id like to connected a switch so we can turn it on and off manually. I can get to the cable and am confident to do the job.

What do I need ? switch /cable/junction box, its just a matter of putting a switch in the middle ?

Thanks in advance

Might not be possible depending on the type of light it actually is. My last one couldn't be manually turned on.

Do you still want the pir to work? Switch only, pir overrides switch, switch overrides pir.

You need a switch somewhere accessible. You run 3 core mains to the switch using L as Live and N as Switch Live (put some brown tape on the blue core to identify it as such).

You need a junction box in the ceiling (wherever the light connects to the lighting circuit, this is where you split the live and use the 3 core cable to connect to the switch).

The cable you use must be rated above the fuse rating for whatever circuit you are connecting to (so the fuse will always pop before the cable melts).
