I walk my dog every morning and evening. I walk through the garage on my way out and back in. The light switch is on the wall by the internal door. So I either need to leave it on when I leave, or walk through in the dark.

I don't have an easy option for fitting a second switch by the main door due to it being a door and position of shelving. So the solution looks to be a sensor to turn light on and off based on movement.

The light is a LED strip light. The cabling is all inside the ceiling / wall cavity. The switch is not recessed, it sits on the wall like a box.

Is this something I can do myself or will I die in the face until dead?

Pretty easy to do, you need to buy the sensor eg

And then wire it up to the mains so it has L&N all the time. It will then have a Switched Live output which you connect to the light (along with a permanent Neutral).

Just switch everything off before wiring it all up.....

Or even simpler - replace existing batten with this and simply leave it on and let the built in sensor so it’s thing. I’ve got one in the garage and 2 in the big shed - they’re awesome
