Whenever they've sent someone to fit a digital meter the man looks at it and says he can't do it.
Are they just being lazy ? Can they fit another meter after the old one just so that we can accurately measure our useage .
Why do you think that one isn't accurate?
They're only designed for 10 year life span, however doesn't mean it's significantly out. I did test our old analogue one by turning everything off bar one 100W light bulb and timing the spinning disc. Was spot on.
As for getting a new one, did he say why he can't fit a new one?

So I'm currently just firing electric back at the grid FOC 🙁
They keep arranging appointments then canceling them at the last minute....so the 30 quid compensation they give me just about covers the SEG I'd likely have got....

Ask your supplier or ask your mates for a clamp on energy monitor, I think Ive been sent about 3 over the years and thy went in the bin when I moved house.

Just seen the photo +1 for not letting them take that away.....that'll most likely spin backwards if you get some micro generation on the go netting you retail price equivalent for your exports Vs wholesale (1/4ish of retail )

Induction clamp on meter will tell you how much you're using, just switch a few things on and off to figure out what's using all the power.

Meter Changers are not trained to a very high standard, so something out of the ordinary, like the cast iron cut out you have, is beyond their skill set.
It is the most dangerous installation to change, as it is common for them to fall apart when taken apart, due to age, and they are surrounded by metal, rather then bakelite/plastic. The meter changing wouldnt be a problem, it is taking the fuse out of the cut out that is the problem.
He/you should inform the Network Operator (Western Power/SSE/Energica etc) to come and change the cut out, the meter changer can then safely change the meter.

Rarely use the Aircon. We do have 17 tubes which we are in the process of swapping over to led. The chocolate cabinet is a surprise culprit at 18 kw a day.

I’ll hazard a guess that your house doesn’t have a wall of essentially single glazing or people opening the door constantly. I’m also going to speculate that you’ve got some really inefficient way of heating hot water, probably no insulation in walls, ceiling etc. We are obsessed with turning off mobile phone chargers in people’s houses but ignore all the offices with monitors on 24/7 and tv screens nobody watches etc....

Is that a typo.... 18kw...... My house uses 10kw a day on average even with me and wife being home all day at the moment.... 18kw is an astronomical amount for one item. I reckon it's your expectations that are inaccurate not the meter.

Yes, they're being lazy/disorganized/whatever. I lost my rag after constantly pestering SSE for one; eventually got sent a guy who said the same so I replied 'Get it changed TODAY!' whereupon he scurried off and booked a super-qualified tech to fit a new one that afternoon.
Basically it's a sunk cost for them (esp if you change provider), so no incentive. It might be an easier process with a SMART meter though.

In the spec they say 19kw a day ,so actually I'm doing alright.
What the hell does it do with 19kw /day if it's not keeping the chocolate cold ?
It keeps the choc between 14 and 17. I've filled all the gaps I can to keep it at temperature. The 3 tubes in it run at 100 w according to our plug monitor.
It is bit of a mystery and it costs £3 a day to run.
