I have been steadily getting fitter over the last 18 months and use a Fitbit Charge HR to monitor things. I have lost approx 8kg in that time (current weight 68kg at 5ft 8).

My normal fitness regime is 3 x 1hr spinning sessions a week, supplemented by some light weights work and perhaps 10 minutes on an exercise bike when time allows.

Historically I have always been able to sustain a full hour in my peak zone (as calculated by Fitbit based on my age/weight) but recently I feel like I am working as hard as I used to but sometimes only managing to stay in the cardio zone for the full hour. Last night I went up a resistance level on the spinning bike and worked really hard (or so I thought) yet the report said I only did 20 minutes in peak, the rest in cardio.

This also seems to have coincided with a steady reduction in my resting heart rate too (which incidentally came after a software update on the monitor). So - is this the Charge HR with a fault? Fitbit altering its calculations? Me getting lazy?

Anyone else finding the same recently with Fitbit?

Cheers

Could be

1. You're tired, take a break

2. You're becoming fitter, and your efficiency has gone up. as someone once said, it never gets easier, you just go faster.

maybe.

Just checked on their forum - perhaps it's this?

We’ve enhanced our PurePulse™ heart-rate technology. Now when you activate exercise mode, you’ll have even better heart-rate tracking during certain high-intensity workouts like Zumba® or bootcamp classes.

's the calming effect of puppies. Reduces your resting heart rate. 😉

Fitbit is quite inaccurate tool for measuring any kind of fitness, especially with it's optical pulse reading. Get a proper HR meter or use other measures for fitness tests.
Also having same fitness program for ages is no good, you should change the program after couple of months. Especially doing exercises like spinning session for an hour (at max heart rate) means that you have become adept at one hour spinning sessions and not much more.

Perhaps, but it was always consistent in what it told me, but lately the readings seem unusual.

Possibly true but other forms of exercise bore me - I can only cope with cycling!
