Just spotted the "fishing sleep suit" on the Aldi website ( https://www.aldi.co.uk/en/specialbuys/sun-2-aug/product-detail/ps/p/fishing-sleep-suit/) and, well, sorry, but I have to ask, if you're a fisher, do you partake in this sort of thing?

Could you not, I don't know, use a tent and sleeping bag LIKE NORMAL PEOPLE?

Not that I am one, but couldn't you, I don't know, use the word angler LIKE NORMAL PEOPLE?

I guess they need to be able to get to their rods and potentially move around. Trying to land a big fish with your ankles effectively tied together probably isn't that easy.

Fisher sounds right if you are describing all fishermen and fisherwomen.

I don't know what the hell that outfit is for though.

There are different types of anglers just like there are different types of mountain bikers.

Some anglers would partake in that sort of thing yes. But then some mountain bikers also lycra up and shave their legs.

It's a sleeping bag with arms and legs. Quite a good idea actually. But does it have a drop down flap at the rear for 'natural breaks'?

Is it for ice fishing? ❓

If so, its odd to be selling them in August. But then I saw the first of the Christmas crap in a local store last week... 😡

yeah I always used to use a bivvy suit and sleeping bag if I was out for weeks at a time over winter.. And I had a tent, sometimes even a telly too 🙂

well toasty.. fishing is sometimes quite a sedentary activity

(EDIT: just looked at the link.. mine was deffo more romper suit and less sleeping bag than the one in the ad)

Ah, memories of good old German army sleeping bags (and the pile lined tank suit if anyone else had one of them)

was the german army bag the one with the waterproofing on the underside and the whole of the lower half unfastened and hooked up your back?

Argos sunloungers were the epitome of cool too 🙂

Sometimes? As opposed to the times when you have to chase the fish down? 🙂

It may come as a surprise to you molgrips.. but almost all of the record breaking fish caught over the last couple of decades (at least in the UK) have been painstakingly stalked and hunted and carefully tracked around enormous lakes and up and down rivers, with a dedicated troop of wannabe heroes following their every move and planning their capture..
upping sticks in the middle of the night to follow a shoal, walking for miles and miles observing feeding habits before even unpacking the rods, travelling the length and breadth of the country to check out rumours of big fish sightings.. it certainly seems quite a faff these days by all accounts..

I dunno if it was the thought of all that hard work or the pointless (sic) barbarism that led me to give it all up if I'm honest 🙂

It does, yes!

Although are these fisher-people the equivalent of top class Enduro riders whilst the folk who sit by the canal and snooze are like weekend warriors?

I will admit my original post was done with the cheeky slant of casting ridicule at anglers and the funny things some of them must wear (fully aware they could be doing the same about grown-ups passing time by playing on bikes while wearing ballet tights and plastic hats), but thank you Mr Yunki, that was an interesting wee insight into that world.

I do like this place. I learns me stuff.
