We've got a small fish tank that was left by an old housemate - it's about 35L and currently has a filter thing that is under the water level that has some plastic bio bead things inside but doesnt seem to do much so we want to get something new we can trust but would also like something that helps aerate the water. Had a look and can see filters or air pumps but nothing that seems to do both?

Any suggestions?

What fish? Cold, tropical or marine? (okay, so they won't be marine so cold or warm?)

You need something like an internal filter, remembering to leave it running 24hours a day and only lightly squeezing the dirty foam un a bowl of old tank water while doing your weekly 10% water change.

Ref which size you need, if it's gold fish double the size of the filter you use as they are twice as mucky as tropical fish

The top end filter is below

Popped down to the local garden centre/pet/everything place and picked up a PF1 - was the biggest we could get into the tank and says it will do 45-68 litres.

Put it in and much better than the crappy thing that was in there. Looking better already 🙂

leave them both running in there for a month,to allow bacteria to form in the new filter.

Goldfish are dirty fish,so need plenty of filtration and regular water changes
