Any recommendations for Fish and Chip shop or cafés close to the A1 northbound between Darlington and Durham that’ll be open on Saturday between 6 and 9 pm?

Staying in Wooler for most of the week, hoping to complete the Cheviot Orbital route, but looking at the forecast, could be spending a lot of time hiding from the rain in cafes – any recommendations for good outdoor cafés in the area (thinking in the style of Grindleford Station Café or Moel Siabod Café – nothing chintzy please!)

Thanks in advance

There are a few good ones in Darlington, which is just off the A1, and you can loop through easily coming off at J57 and on at J59. Haughton Chippy is my local ( https://goo.gl/maps/SGYcTFf3JsjsMxLi9) and they've just opened a second nearer the motorway (J58) ( https://goo.gl/maps/zZKCJ3EFAPyDJKBTA). Not 100% sure of opening times, but they should be.

Amble Harbour chip shop when you're further north.

Cafe’s there's loads now in the area.

New one near Wooler is The Bosk at Branton

Rocking Horse near Rock north of Alnwick

The Old Stables Alnwick

Running Fox they have one at Felton, Shilbottle or Lomgframlington

They might be a bit chintzy but they're very good.

You have my number if you want to catch up but I'm away this afternoon walking Hadrian’s wall until Tuesday.

Come to think of it there is one at Millfield, Belford has a couple and Etal.

I'll probably remember more as I wake up.

Woah ...Travel further north and go to the best fish & chip shop I've ever experienced ..Fenham Fish Bar in Newcastle ..everything is cooked to order ( which you place when you walk in ) ..amazingly good !

Amble harbour for fish and chips is ace, I like the wee cafe in Milfield, and the post office at Ford made us a slap up breakfast while bikepacking last Saturday 👍
