Just wondering if anyone else has been a victim of this. A friend dropped round earlier and offered to buy fish and chips for us. We thought it sounded cool in a low effort sort of way, so gave him a tenner. Some 20 minutes ago, he texted us and said: 'Purchase of fish and chips complete'. Since them, nothing...

Has anyone else fallen victim to this scam?

With hindsight, he's quite skinny, could he be an addict? Should I be compassionate? The idea kind of upsets me.

Update: he turned up with the fish and chips after all. I feel awful. Disgusted with myself. How could i have doubted him?

I think I owe everyone an apology. Sorry.

You kind of had to be there. It was like he was using some sophisticated psychological manipulation techniques, felt like I  had no control over the situation. And yeah, I know that seems improbable from the outside, but trust me, it was hard not to give in. I was actually close to giving him over £10,000, but fortunately I only had a tenner as I'd given the rest to a bloke who needed it for a train ticket home earlier on.

Surely it's fish and chip scam(pi)? Or Co(n)d and chips?

Where is PP when you need him?

But your puns are the life and sole of the forum. The plaice would just be crumby without them.

I'm glad we've wrapped that one up nicely.

I've seen some nasty scraps over this kind of thing.

Anyway, a few weeks ago my BIL came oop North to see his Mum & met up with his bro, they were at her house & said they'd go for fish & chips for tea, for which she was thankful. They went off to the chip shop & while they were away, MIL forgot where they'd gone & had a cup of tea, 2 sandwiches & a sausage roll for tea.

Dementia setting in. 🙁

I once bought haddock and fries from a takeaway and they cloned my bank card.

It was a phish and chip(& pin) scam.

Oh god, it's happening again - will I never learn 🙁

He's a forum member on here too. Should I name and shame? It's been 15 minutes since he was due to appear with the fish and chips and... nothing.

You should conspire to inflict all sorts of hakes and pains on the perpetrator, provided he doesn't prove to be too eelusive.
