Yep the time has come for a smart phone 🙂
what cheap PAYG?
only really interested in going on the web (wifi) maybe downloading some apps and a little music. oh and a camera
whats good?
Microsoft Lumia 640? My lass has just got one - superb for what they cost. Ignore all the Windows phone haters, I've got a Nokia 930 with the same Windows 8.1 and it's really good. Better than the iphone which preceeded it. Lack of apps, if you're really fussy, I suppose.
was thinking under £50
635 is £45
Amazon have the Lumia 630 SIM only for £49.99 on their "Today's Deals"

no flash on the 630 - which could be an issue (then again smart phones at low light aren't helped by a flash that much)
If I had a budget of £50 I'd be looking at the second-hand market. Get thee to a CEX / Cash Converters.
You can get a Moto E for £50 or less. Apparently Tesco had it for £30 recently. It is easy to unlock.
It is pretty good, for a basic Android phone, all of the usual apps available. It doesn't have much memory, but you can add a MicroSD card.
The camera is rather poor, it doesn't have a flash (annoying if you want to use it as a torch).
Often wondered, kids and the poor aside, why people buy really cheap smartphones?
Priorities?

So when it gets dropped, breaks, gets wet, lost, cracks screen they don't endlessly whine about it!
because I rarely use my old mobile and I'm concious of turning into someone whos always messing with one. I have no real interest in tech. not bothered about having 'the latest', more money to spend of things I do enjoy etc etc...hows that ? haha
What's your anticipated use for calls? You can get basic smart phones for £7.50/month with enough calls/texts/internet for a light user. Me and my missus both have cheapies (Sony/Huawei) which are fine. I guess if you hardly make calls etc PAYG ends up cheaper in the end?

Because they fundamentally do the same stuff as really expensive ones? But cheaper?
I've had a Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 for nearly 3 years.
Phone calls. Yep.
Texts. Yep
Camera. Yep
Internet. Yep
Email. Yep
Music. Yep
Candy Crush. Yep.
Useful apps. Yep
What else would be worth me spending £600 to replace it with a new iphone?
put it this way £10 credit usually lasts a few months 🙂
