Can any of you gamer people recommend me some FPS game suitable for my 10-year-old lad on the PS4?

Not too cartoony but not super-technical or massively gory/scary ideally.

Something like Halo if there are similar titles? Ideally available for cheap now.

Destiny 2, maybe? Recommended age is apparently 14 though - no gore, bit of alien murdering.
Or the usual Fortnite, Overwatch 2 (too cartoony?)

Normal answer is whatever his mates are playing, but that's probably Call of Duty...

Any of the older Battlefield or COD games might do, the historical ones aren't excessively gory.

The only thing my 10 yr old (and his mates) play is Fortnite.

I'm a bit shocked Prodeus is rated 18 on PS4, recently picked it up on pc at cdkeys for <£3.

That rules out all the good ones 😆

As to technically. Are you sure thats not your criteria, looking at them from an old duffers point of view. Kids of today are pretty savvy when it comes to games.

Good question.

He's fine with having to use loads of different buttons to do stuff, which drives me mad personally.

By "technical" I was meaning more like very realistic, simulation kind-of games.

Thx for the recs so far 🙂

Fortnite - It's free. Easy to jump into and play. Quick recycle back into another game when you lose early. XP stuff to do in game to get your level up.

Expect to pay out for Battle Pass and new skins. Battle Pass gives free skins and other stuff on XP gain and also enough free in game cash to buy the battle pass next time round probably. Unless it's spent on other.

At the same time? Impressive.

I'd say Fortnite also. Despite my initial reticence we've both really enjoyed playing it - really good fun and you can either take a proper gung-ho approach or a sneaky-sneaky - depends on his outlook. My 10 y/o was INCENSED when on my first go, in Battle Royal mode, I managed to finish first. I've got nowhere near it since (16th is my next best) but quite frankly I don't care, I'm still dining out on that first.

Fortnite. Just in case you missed it. Also, Overwatch 2 is quite good, I'm not as into that, and it's a bit more fantastical, but also good frantic fun.

Doesn't really fulfil your breif (as third person and a bit cartoony), but my son and his mates played Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare alot at that age.

We have Star Wars Battlefront of some sort. That's quite good as it's playing at Star Wars with Storm Troopers etc.  rather than realistic gory human killing type stuff. Seem to remember it was a bargain 2nd hand too.

Oh and did anyone mention Fortnite? 😉

I dug out the PS3 and that kept the boy entertained for weeks playing the Portal games and Half Life 2

He freakin loves Portal 2, an amazing game.

Fortnite

Going to get haters for this - Call of Duty ( yes it’s sweary , and blood and guts) but imo Fortnite is more addictive and damaging for young kids

My daughter enjoys Hogwarts Legacy. Some exploring, some puzzle solving and some battles. No swearing as I recall. Not online though, but that suits me.

Not sure it really counts as FPS mind, you shoot with a wand.

No, PS4 at mums, PS4 here and Switch when the PS4/TV is otherwise occupied...

Has been already said, but what his mates have is the correct answer.  Some of my lad's mates actually gave him a copy of Destiny 2 so they could all stop playing Star Wars Battlefront, which was his fave until then.  His stingy parents (us) had held out, thinking that Destiny 2 was a bit violent, but we knew nothing, of course.

Your 10 yr old shouldn't be playing FPSs.

Games have age ratings for a reason.

If we want our kids to grow up and develop traits like kindness & empathy then let them be kids and don't subject them to adult themed games and movies until they're ready.

"All their mates are playing it" is not a valid reason to let them do the same.

Fixed your username mate 😉

My lad is super-sweet and kind, but I'll bear your advice in mind, thanks.
