Mrs Bloke did the shopping today. A six pack of the little buggers must have accidentally slipped into the trolley. I was therefore obliged to have one for pudding. Just the one mind, I'm not a monster. Just me?
Had my first one last week at work.
Don’t be daft. It’s never too soon.
I do like a Halloween mince pie
Had ny first about 3 weeks ago.
Just the one mind, I’m not a monster. Just me?
Yes, just you. Any sensible person would eat all six
I’m down two boxes so far. My record in one season is just shy of 100.
Noticed Lidl had them in last week so got the first box in of the season
If you like mince pies, knock yourself out!
Not had any for a few months, but I love eating (cold) hot cross buns all year round, not just at Easter.
Don’t be daft. It’s never too soon.
Agree with this. They are on a list of seasonal foods I like, so am happy to eat out of season (if I can get them). Thankfully mince pies freeze OK, or at least home made ones do.
See also: hot cross buns, pancakes, panettone.
Saw some at a checkout tonight, managed to resist. 💪
Nearly succumbed last week, now this thread has confirmed its ok it's only a matter of time.
Never too soon although not had 1 yet.
I have however scoffed through 2 large Pannetones…..om nom nom
Too soon? They’ve been available for months.
I’ve not had one at all yet and haven’t had an inclination to.
I fancied a slice of Stollen the other day.....
Hot cross buns are still for sale too 🤔
About a month behind me, you lightweight.
Love the fact that I can now buy mince pies and hot cross buns on the same shopping trip.
Thinking I'm a trend setter but being way behind the curve. Story of my life.
Unless it’s a macaroni pie, I’m not interested!
Had to stop eating them, used to have a 2-4 a day habit
😢
Unless it’s a macaroni pie, I’m not interested!
Vile! Reported.
🤣
Dare I say it, but moderation is required. I've resisted so far, but only because I know I'm weak and would not be able to stop.
Last year a mate from work and I started at bonfire weekend in a light hearted competition, stopped at 48 Xmas eve, I'd gone off them.

48 boxes is a fair effort
Love the fact that I can now buy mince pies and hot cross buns on the same shopping trip.
The simultaneous availability of these means I am oddly tempted to try a sandwich of mince pie in a hotcross bun. Possibly with brandy butter.
I'm not even from wigan.
So easy for me, absolutely not for me. Chocolate, now that’s a problem. Enjoy whilst you can.
We were given some Morrisons "Rich & Fruity" mince pies. Don't bother, they are rubbish.
Good discount on the all butter ones in Waitrose with a MyWaitrose card. Finished my first box yesterday
Been stuffing them down since early September.
I've been resisting the urge but a rubbish day at work yesterday and seeing them by the till in the shops made me buckle.
They where far from the best so it's killed the addiction for now
No not too early.
'Good housekeeping' magazine voted 'Iceland's' luxury mince pie range, as the best of the supermarket buys.
I'm addicted to Lebkuchen.
48 boxes from bonfire night to xmas eve?
thats gotta be a box a day or close to.
ChubClub that way --->
My record in one season is just shy of 100.
nearly 17 boxes of mince pies by yourself is genuinely heroic. Daughter bought some last trip to Morrisons, I reckon a mince pie (or two) on Hallowe'en is OK.
The thing that gets me is the constant arse-ing around with the recipe that supermarkets feel they need to get into, Crumble topped? Orange and Spiced Rum? and it's not just mince pies, they **** about with scones and hot cross buns just as much, I got overexcited by finding a reduced price pack of scones a while back, only to realise at the last minute that they were choc-chip! what sort of monster thinks anyone wants choc chip scones?

This should be called the "Second Course Slappy"
Just had 3 puff pastry mince pies, my they were nice. Between me and my mates we usually see who has the first - usually one of the lads starts in September. We had loads at our MTB weekend last October.
This should be called the “Second Course Slappy”
I thought maybe a wigan Chrimbab?
‘Iceland’s’ luxury mince pie range
Well that's a challenging thought - Iceland has a luxury range?
The thing that gets me is the constant arse-ing around with the recipe that supermarkets feel they need to get into, Crumble topped? Orange and Spiced Rum?
They still sell the traditional ones alongside the interesting ones, for boring old farts who complain about modern life.

Obviously no-one, that's why they were reduced. Only an idiot would ever excitedly buy reduced goods without checking what's inside the container. And no, I didn't mistakenly buy salted caramel Welshcakes a couple of weeks ago because they were reduced to half price. Salted caramel Welshcakes, wtf is the world coming to? Why do manufacturers insist on messing around with Welshcakes? What's wrong with good old plain Welshcakes?
😀
Oh, and back to the main point, I've had two boxes of mince pies so far. Both iced. Both excellent.
A pie is a pie and not just for Christmas......:-) I have to make and bake the little buggas all year round..as my Mrs. loves them.....:-)
That is an ACE t-shirt!
I'm still holding out on the mince pies, for now... once I start, I can't stop.
Never too early for mince pie. Especially with chips and gravy...

🤣 that is sooooo a meat pie
I succumbed and had my first one this afternoon.
🤣 that is sooooo a meat pie
Correct. Mince beef. (Full disclosure it's a Google image, however, it's what I had for tea yesterday 😁)
When do those t-shirts go on sale??
Haven't had any mince pies yet, but may have been at the mulled wine............
Love the t shirt but more importantly is that office door sign effective at preventing unwanted interruptions and will it work in my office?
is that office door sign effective at preventing unwanted interruptions
Is it heck as like!
We’ve just had a period of silence in chez BH as it appears that Waitrose have stopped selling the Heston take on the mince pie, complete with a crumble top.
I have to do this every year, get ecclefechan tarts from Sainsbury's, much better than mince pies.
Much too early for mince pies.
Before you know it we'll be getting recipes for brussels sprouts 😡
Stollen for breakfast
the win
FTFY
Mince beef.
Made from bulls that walk like cows?
Your body is going to crave extra fruit at this time of year.
I’d like to see the restaurants and supermarkets offer fruity curries too..
I used to enjoy mince pies. Now not so much. Too sweet.
One of the youngsters in tbe office had to drop something off at his grandparents on the way to work the other day and arrived in the office with a tub of his grandma's homemade mince pies. They were pretty good.
Chatsworth Farm Shop Luxury ones have been my favourites so far. But pricey
Good reminder to stock up on mincemeat. I already have a bottle of Gluhwein in the cupboard. Also need to stock up on Baileys/ Ballycastle. Trying to hold off until 1st December but that seems a long way off.
I have just fed the Christmas cake some brandy this morning. Think I’ll get a syringe for it as I couldn’t quite manage to pour it into the tiny holes I made so not sure it’s getting right into the cake.
The M&S frangipan version are very nice too. I had some from the farm shop at work and they were as bad as the Morrisons ones.
Christmas pudding is nasty..
Giimme a good cheese cake any day.
Anyone add extra brandy to the mincemeat before filling? I bought some brandy mincemeat from Aldi but I can’t taste the booze.
My friend who makes the very best mince pies in the whole world, recommends Robertson's mincemeat filling.
@Bunnyhop homemade all the way using the Delia recipe and extra alcohol (when she wrote the Christmas book she was a trifle abstemious with the booze).
The recipe makes a huge amount wich keeps for years.
A knob of home made marzipan in the middle before sticking the lid on adds to the fun.
Olio handed over some Iceland standard Mince Pies, not bad at all with a decent hit of alcohol.
Aldi Ballycastle (Baileys) mince pies - nice idea, but pies are not topped with boozy buttercream
Much too early for mince pies.
Before you know it we’ll be getting recipes for brussels sprouts 😡
You mean you haven't had your sprouts on a rolling boil for a week or two already? #christmasruined
Lidl 12 pack of mince pies. Just no. I should have known better when I saw the price. Oversweetened cloying pap. They went to the chickens
Spar luxury mince pies on the other hand are ace. They have a star shaped pastry lid which makes you think that the ration will be off, but it's perfect.
Local cafe doing mince pies topped with a Viennese Whirl.
Works better than i expected
Just had a Mr Kipling mince pie. Plenty of filling, though it was a bit sweet and didn't taste of all that much but OMG the pastry!
Sucked the moisture out of my mouth like a scrumpy hangover and mostly tasteless and unsweetened but with a hint of wet cardboard.
I do not recommend. Maybe I should have known better but they did manage to be placed 5th in the gh list this year so I was expecting something decent.
Iceland Luxury pies are pretty good. I think it was £2.50 for 6
Tesco Finest have done the rounds in the office today and have proven well filled and tasty with decent pastry
