I saw this tonight and thought it was great. Yeah yeah, there are bits I'm not sure about, especially on the moon (there's no evidence he did that), and the whole thing feels a little rushed, but the capsule moments are superb, and Gosling is pretty much how I'd pictured him, based on Collin's book (who is somewhat absent).
I'm not claustrophobic, but those capsules....
Saw it too - "in your face" camera work took a bit of getting used to, the moon scenes conveyed a sense of stillness and isolation but if I ever wanted to be an astronaut I sure don't now.
Ohh cool.
Listeming to Mark kermode prattle on about it yesterday, which still made me want to see it.
given that it was 1969 surely there can't be any spoilers lol

Haha. I meant the bracelet bit.
Saw it last night. Just as Jaws isn’t about a shark, First Man isn’t about the moon shot.
I spoke to my wife and said I really wanted to watch this.
So she surprised me with a rental; but she mis-remembered the name...

I still enjoyed it, but it's not quite what I had in mind
It’s certainly not provable that the bracelet event happened, but it’s plausible. More plausible than the claim some have made that its showed that a UN flag was planted on the moon...

I agree it can't be completely ruled out but everything his wife [at the time] has said suggests it is very unlikely.
Film was trying to be too emotional and way too much camera shake but the moon bits were superb and no Hollywood bollocks bits. I thought about it afterwards, which means it was good.
It was an enjoyable Sunday evening watch I thought.
Takes me back to the days of watching the Apollo missions launches from the beach when i was a kid.
I knew nothing about Neil’s back story, and having watched the film it still makes not a lot of difference to the whole story IMO.
The cinematography was good in a rugged way. I enjoyed some of the camera shake, some of the more immediate in your face to nothing moments and the feeling of being on top of a huge bomb heading into space whilst sitting 3mm between you and not a lot other than nothing... whilst keeping an eye on the screws and riveting holding it all together. Those moments were the best.
And the moment when he returned and sat down with his wife whilst in quarantine, and blew her a kiss.
Is it worth all the hype? Ermmm probably not, though enjoyable none the less.
