Another of our holiday theme parks has gone! This time Oakwood in South Wales.

Flambards was always “charmingly shit”, but Oakwood was pretty good with some proper big rides. Specifically, the big wooden rollercoaster and the really fast one. Bugger.

If Pleasurewood Hills gets the chop next, then I am cursed.

Flambards was always “charmingly shit”  "the Best Day of the Week"

Hoping that Ferdi and Gus Honeybun have gone underground and will one day emerge, blinking in the sunlight, to wreak a terrible revenge on Alton Towers and their so-called fancy "adrenaline"

Only been to Oakwood once, and the general air of dilapidation combined with sky-high pricing didn't make us want to go back.

I've been going to Oakwood since it first opened as we holidayed in Pembrokeshire as a family nearby for well over a decade.  I have a photo at mum's of me on a BMX withan Oakwood number plate on it dated 1988!  The place was great until it was sold in 2008 with a family feel and regularly having updates and new rides added.  The addition of Megafobia was a proper event and it's been the main draw at the place ever since it opened in 1996.  The downward trend has been evident ever since it was sold to Aspro who have never really done anything to it since.  My last visit was in 2018 and the place was really depressing then, the decay was evident everywhere with lots of rides shut.

It's sad to see it wither and die like it has but hopefully some of the rides will be saved, Megafobia always ranks high in the Rollercoaster charts but I don't know how feasible moving a wooden coaster would be.
