You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Rode my 1st 200km audax yesterday! Added 15km to each end getting to and from the event. The 15k home was fun as I was shattered. Managed it in 9hrs which wasn't bad as I wasn't pushing the pace at all. Ran out of water 70km from the end and some guys playing cricket saved my bacon as they allowed me to use the tap in their clubhouse. The last time I rode 200+ km I was shattered for days after but this morning I ran a 17km trail run and I am feeling ok
Bike was superb and no issues at all it climbs souch better than my rx9 - really flies up the hills and if the gradient is less than 4% it hardly feels like a hill. The continental gp5000 as were magnificent - so much grip especially when leaned right over at 45+. Main lesson for me - bring the bigger water bottles next time !Â
Awesome! I find I get bored after about 7 hours and just want to be finished, even if I have the legs so I've never done a 200.Â
I don't think you need to carry enough water for the whole thing, just make sure you have strategic cafe stops for a refill.Â
Good effort! Training for anything in particular? 😉
Yes, this is preparation for the dragon ride. I have signed up for the 157km version which by my Reckoning from an elevation perspective should be a lot less than yesterday. I'm a bit apprehensive as the people I'll be riding with might be a lot slower than me. Though I'm fully looking forward to the challenge of the Welsh hills! I think there's less hills but they're just bigger! Then in October or November of this year I promised myself to go to one of the Balearic islands with the bike and do a proper week cycling thereÂ
I'm riding the London to Brighton in 2 weeks time. If anybody else fancies it? I'm going to ride back so I'm looking for someone to accompany me back to London!

You just need to get faster :p

Ah sorry, I actually got my usernames mixed up, that was supposed to be an in joke. Good set of events to look forward to though!
Fantastic, well done.
Years since I've ridden a 200, usually reckon on 10 hour door to door. Done a few 100s this year, seems to be a lack of 150s around here to play with in between.
Agree GP5000s are amazing - got some after all the hype/recommendations and they are proving faster and more comfortable, very flattering for a fat old guy like me
Nice one! You finished with loads of time in hand so you could eat more cake next time.
Are you Claude Erskin Brown?
pinarello X7
very nice, if a bit quirky shape!
Good effort though 💪
The bike is my pinarello X7 - it's my first proper road bike and I'm really happy with it.Â
I'm not seeing a canvas Carradice Long Flap, so I'm calling Fake News!

Well done!

There's definitely an element of mental fortitude required on long rides, with the added jeopardy that the longer they get the longer you have to do to the finish if you hit the wall. Did an (almost) 300 a couple of months back and had a bit of a sense of humor failure about it about 200km as my body just wasn't playing the game (I think I needed better food at the stops). Had to give myself a bit of a talking to and the last 100k was hard work. On the upside once you've done it once, the next one is easier, and once you've done a longer one the shorter ones seem to be over far quicker.
Although as Aidy says, you can always go faster to speed things up 😂 I'm envious of the groups that can just roll around 300k at 30km/hÂ
