Day at BikePark Wales yesterday. After about 3 hours riding all was going well until I came to the bottom of one trail (Willy Waver) and found I could not let go of the bars with my left hand. I had to pull my hand off the bars and couldn't move the middle 2 fingers. They were just curled in to my palm and I couldn't feel them. Had a bit of a panic I must admit. After about 5 minutes I could move them again but had no strength in them. That was the end of the day's riding. Strength and feeling came back last night.
I must have jarred or jammed a nerve I reckon.
Has anyone else experienced this and have any idea if I am likely to experience it again?
Apart from that it was a great day yesterday. Dry as a bone and the trails were running very fast. In some places though the dust was very slippery and that led to a few squeaky bum moments.
I have recently had some tendon problems and when talking to the doctor she said that inflammation of the tendon sheath can cause claw hand (what you had) and you can sometimes hear a noise as the tendon is pulled through the sheath.
Yep. I can do this by pulling my thumb up towards my hand. if you hold it tight and long enough it "gets stuck"
I have no idea about what causes it though although i suspect electric\chemical things are involved causing a spasm.
Had it sailing and biking too on occasion.
50mph scree downhill on aluminium rigid hire bikes produced similar results. Had to cycle back resting my wrists on the bars. Was a combination of taking a pounding + deathgrip on the bars. Just need to stay loose.
This is how it started going wrong for Roy Batty. I hate to break it to you but 2019 isn’t going to be a good year
