After A&E screwed up (missed fracture of hamate bone, forth and fifth metacarpal joints), I am left with two malrotated fingers - the ring finger and little finger.......

The malrotated ring finger is extremely irritating to say the least, and most irritating when clenching handlebars (fingers overlap and 'dig in' to each other)....

Anyone here have any coping strategies/aids for dealing with finger malrotation? I am desperate to get back on the bike, but the irritation is unbearable...

Thanks!

Go back to the hospital and demand your money back?

Seriously, don't they fix this by breaking your fingers again and setting them in the right place, a la molgrips?

Get seen again. You shouldn't have your quality of life reduced by someone's mistakes.

Indeed - ask to be referred back to the orthapods to have them repaired.

finger / hand breaks are often hard to spot and medicine is not an exact science. unfortunately now it will probably need surgery to correct so only you can know if it worth it after you have teh info you need.

Thanks TJ - unfortunately the hand surgeon is not willing to operate as hand function (irritation aside) is "very good" and any evidence of fracture has now almost disappeared - CT scan carried out after 5 months.....

But I shall continue fighting and in the mean time, for lack of anything better, I will buddy strap both fingers.....

Second opinion time then. You want a specialist in hand function. it may be that its not worth it but a decent surgeon should be able to give you the info not make a paternalistc decision for you

Is the reason the surgeon is not willing to operate because of the poor bloody supply to that bone and risks of non union or arthritis if they break it again?

Surrounded By Zulus,

Apparently, scar tissue adhesions, risk of neuroma and possible metal plate removal are some of the *risks*.... but no risk no gain.....

Arthritis is inevitable as joints are 1mm displaced with articular stepoff..
