Anyone experienced and have some tips to share?
I think the trick that you have to be friends with lots of little old ladies.
A friend got a house that was owned by a bankrupt zoo owner (who kept a large number of animals in the house), it was stripped bare (all the wiring gone etc.) bought at auction. It was such a state that you couldn't spend that long in the house. A full gut and rebuild and it's amazing.
On the other hand out former next door neighbours were an elderly couple the house went cheap and the new owner was gutted and looking good now.
Tips? Have enough cash ready to buy and keep looking. We could have put an offer in on day 1 for next door but even if we could have stretched for the deposit we couldn't have financed the work needed.
From watching a couple if you can buy and not move in you can get work done very quickly if your not trying to live there.
I could point you at two absolute crackers if you want big old places in unfashionable Doncaster. Yes, both the former homes of now departed friends and neighbours. As above, old people die. Why do you want a fixer-upper?
I've bought a flat via these guys, mostly repossessions or distress sales, so they can move fast if they aren't basket cases.

Exploring options really. Ideally I'd like a place to do up to live in, but I'm also looking at flats or small properties I could invest a little in and then sell on or rent out.
Auctions are your best bet, other than that it's good luck or fortune.
But if bidding at auction you need ready cash - normally 10% to pay on the day of auction with remainder in around 30 days.
But jeez - property auctions are EBay flying on a line of Grade A Coke...
