So my Focus is due a service

Service book has a Ford stamp for the first service and 3 independants after that

There is only the service book, no paperwork listing what has actually been carried out

Now as i bought the car after its last service ive no idea what was done at that service

The independant garage is no longer trading so i cant ask them for a paper copy

Ive been told its all stored electronically by Ford (independants upload what they have done to the ford site)

How do i access this info?

You'll need a Ford ETIS account or have a Ford dealer check for you. I don't think independents can upload the service record to Ford - not 100% sure on that, but I do know it was about £15 and hour to access 'ETIS' (Electronic Technical Information System). I doubt many will bother if the vehicle is outside Ford's warranty period.

All the VMs are at this and all it amounts to is just another way of putting the squeeze on independent garages. Having said that I'd just get a full service done at a garage you trust - stuff the service history as anybody can stamp a book and not do the work.

Cheers

I can log on to ETIS and see my car and the build sheet but cant find anything on servicing even though i know Ford carried out the first service according to the the book

Having said that I’d just get a full service done at a garage you trust – stuff the service history as anybody can stamp a book and not do the work

This is why i want a print out of what has been previously done otherwise ive no clue what the each service/last service was (major/minor/cambelt etc...)

Is there not an online rundown of what should be done at each service? If so, surely get next one lined up and say you need all that done plus check the timing belt to see if that was done 'recently' - will depend on age of car though...

Very few independents upload their data, it's not free to have access so very few do as they'd be shelling out a lot to cover all brands.

I've get Ford ETIS and security access, but I have no idea how to access service records.

I suspect it's access that's normally only given to service receptionists/warranty administrators, as I've never found it via my login.

So it's a 5 year old.car presumably. 1 +3 + this year.

The only thing you know is that the service books been filled out.

Having been stung by being nieve and believing that a service book was worth the paper it was written on...

Yeah what Marko said.

I had this with my ‘15 plate Golf. I thought it had the electronic service history but with the help of my friendly local VW accredited indie we discovered that it was the last Golf made before they went to electronic records*

Like your Focus the car exists on the electronic database just with no records attaching to it.

The service book had been lost as well but luckily it did come with all the service receipts.

Don’t know if your Focus is in a similar service record no-man’s land. And yes, the indies that have been used may well not have subscribed to the service anyway. It isn’t cheap…

*this is a slight exaggeration however it is right on the cut-off before they went to full electronic records.

As above, I would get anything done that affects safety or vehicle life and isn't visible. So oil, filter, brake fluid. Brake discs and pads, air filter, on the other hand, you can see if they need changing. Which engine does your Focus have? If it's the Ecoboost, the coolant, coolant reservoir and turbo degas pipes are crucial things to check - if it's pre 2016 it may have the original design of degas pipe which is prone to failure, resulting in the engine overheating and writing itself off. The cambelt was designed to last the life of the car, but doesn't, I think Ford now recommend 100k, but since it runs in oil its life can be influenced by using the right oil and changing it when it should be - when it starts to fail, the fibres block the oil pump. It might be worth getting the oil checked for fibres.
