The BMW IX advert was on telly, the missus says "is that Coldplay?". No idea, so Googled it - Higher Power - and it came back with the lyrics. Worth reading out loud.

I know Chris Martin came across sanctimonious in their early days but the hate is weird. They’re just a pop band.

I quite like Coldplays music. Thought their live set at Glasto which was on the Beeb was good, and definitely one of the better Superbowl half-time shows (admittedly with Beyonce and Bruno). There, I said it.

Oddly, I'm not into music really but isn't it just fashionable not to like coldplay more than anything?

A bit arrogant to announce the band ending years in advance. And cold and calculated. Love quite a few or their songs, but this approach to the end of a band I find quite odd.

For me, Coldplay rose and peaked at this...

Fantastic song. After that, they were shit, and that was essentially because they disappeared up their own bums.

I don't 'like' Coldplay... but their Tiny Desk performance is one of the most uplifting things I've experienced over the last 20 months.

It must be terrible when Coldplay come round your house and insist on putting their own music on, or follow you down the road playing a selection of their hits even though you plead with them to stop. Even worse when they stream their music into your car stereo so there's not even any respite when you're behind the wheel. I mean, I wouldn't be happy with any of that but I've been lucky enough to never have any of it happen.

To be fair, they're hardly alone in that regard. Just turn on the radio. Half the music is bland, the other half sounds like cats being strangled.

This. Parachutes was great, their Glasto gig was ace. But that's not the narrative, right?

I loved them for the first few albums, great live etc, but felt they gotta bit meh and a bit Hollywood. Then my mate took me to the Radio2 gig couple weeks back and they were cool, he was a laugh and they really nailed the sit, all things considered. The people of the pride track is ace. I’m back on board for now.

I’m certainly not a coldplay fan, in fact I couldn’t name a single song of theirs.
However, when they did the superbowl halftime show a couple of years ago, i was surprised that I recognised almost every song.
So, yeah, bland? Maybe.
They’ve made a flipping fortune being bland, so best of luck to them.

I used to get mistaken for Chris Martin in the street. I don't go out now.

This is the thing, their songs are great, it’s Martin’s singing that really puts me off! I have a similar issue with the Manics as well.

Aimee Mann covered ‘The Scientist’ on a limited version of her ‘Lost In Space’ album, and I love her version of the song, as someone said, Coldplay just seem insipid.
