Some of you will remember my deliberations after my Navara got written off - yellow Transit's, Isuzu pick-up's, VW Transporters etc...

Finally settled on another Navara - 3.0l V6 auto - 230bhp (same mpg as my old 2.5l manual) - leather, climate, sat-nav, sunroof, Bose sound etc, etc and got over £3k off the screen price. Plenty of haters, but nothing out there to beat them as far as pick-up's go from my experience.

Seems a shame they slope the back and lose all the lugging space there.

Sorry, in the hater camp.

That back makes it look like a Humvee wannabe.

It's the same back as I had on my old one - serves its purpose.

Outlaw will be coming off 😉

Why does that pic make me think of a skinny dude giving his really fat girlfriend a piggy back?

(I have just opened a surprisingly nice bottle of red and slurped 2 glasses before eating)

Does it have proper suspension at the back, or 19th century leaf spring technology?

Do you live on a farm and use it to farm your land?

Me likey. Not keen on the lid though.

Fancied one but went for a Ranger in the end. Wouldn't have anything but a truck now.

Not much else can carry 5 adults in relative luxury, tow 3 tonnes regularly and double up as a shooting wagon.

It's a nice truck but that canopy thing looks awful. I just don't understand buying a pickup and then essentially trying to turn it into a vauxhall Astra gti.

When I say awful, I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that but that really is just wrong on that truck. Sorry.

That would be no use to me whatsoever, wouldn't be able to get my sea fishing rods in! ( I assume there's a window between the back of the cab & the 'boot'?)

No likey.

You'd giggle at the Mitsubishi Pajero then.

Sold in Oz to chaps with a deficit. (Everyone knows you really need a Toyota trayback to cart your hunting dogs).

I'll let you discover what a Pajero is. Doesn't seem to have affected their popularity in Oz though.

I suppose one should train for one's favourite sport. 🙂

A midlife crisis on steroids.
Why not get an Ifor Evans galvanised lid for the rear? 'twould certainly make it more useful.
There's not a single straight line on the truck, yet the lid is just straight lines and sharp angles.
Both designed by blind men.

Lol at the haterz but they are a good motor for the intended purpose. My old man has just bought an older diesel one to replace a Land rover that was needing fixing all the time, it's far more comfortable (now he has fitted the up rated springs at the back so it sits in the springy/active bit of travel ) for a leaf sprung rear the ride isn't too bad.
It's perfect for shooting, lugging chainsaws and logs and a an on-site welder/generator around. I now get to sit on a proper seat on shoots instead of a sack of corn in the back of a Swb land rover.

Big end problems went away with the D22, clutch and half shaft issues went away with the early D40's. I'm used to leaf springs - having a tonne load capacity calls for them - remember, I had one of these before and loved it.

As for NCAP - I didn't feel a thing.... 😉

Drove the anorak the other day, proper suspension is rather nice but it steered like a typical barge. Always liked the navara, good choice. You getting the tent kit artist?

Has a designer owned up to that? It looks from the side like the back end of a Range Rover Ewok has been grafted on imho. What was the brief to end up with that?

OP - hope you enjoy it and glad you survived the loss of the last one ok.

I love my navara, especially the kit inside and sun roof, don't think I've had a sun roof since the 1980's when they went thru a period of being pretty standard. Fairly pokey engine in mine as well
Have to agree with people about the rear cover, don't think they look nice at all.

PS I thought they only came in tekna and acenta flavour now?

That Range Rover would be ok if it wasn't the result of a cut n shut using the back end of a Navara pick up....

The Acenta used to be called Outlaw, when the top spec was Aventura (now Tekna)

The Outlaw I'm getting is the range topper and only comes with the V6 auto.

Specced up a new one on the Nissan site with the loadliner and canopy - £40,367 inc VAT (£33,639) 😯

This is less than a year old with 11k miles and I'm paying £25k inc VAT (£20,833), so hopefully that's a good chunk of depreciation out of the way.

The back looks like they put in a lot of effort to make it massive, then put in a lot more effort to make it effectively smaller.

I am holding out to see what the new one looks like... really learning to loath my L200 at the moment, but until we eventually move I am stuck with it (everything else is too big to park on my designated space... and anything else that would fit would die a horrible death when being used as a truck is intended to be used!)

I had an early D40 which blew up on a very regular basis - but it drove so nicely that I am willing to give them another go!

I can't imagine why anybody would buy anything else. That lid is crap though. You'll need to take both wheels off your bikes to get them in.

Not for me, but could be worse. i bet there are a few on here who actually went out and handed over real money for a BMW X6.

The big question is "Does the OP have the need to Tow"?

Looks nice and I was thinking the same, but can't wait and no release date yet - expect a big waiting list too. They won't be doing the V6 in it either - I'll be re-mapping this one to 270bhp 😉

Mine's usually full of tools anyway and I never have anything up against the rear window. On the occasion I do put my bike in, it goes on top of the tools. Emptied it once and had 4 adults, 4 big bikes and a weekends luggage in no problem.

Sometimes, yes - the last one got my 27ft caravan on and off waterlogged campsites the winter before last when working away. Sometimes I'll tow cable trailers or other plant.

I would also be in a rush since I am getting 25mpg out of the L200 at the moment, but until we decide where to move to and put things in motion there isn't much point!

I thought they were doing a V6... shame... not that such things are important to me. Though it will be getting some proper boots on whatever I get 😉 Partially as I have a pathological hatred of Bridgestone Duellers and partially cos road tyres are rubbish on the mud!

Well in that case, again I misunderstand the dynamics of STW members!

Still, I don't get all the haterz. It's a big truck. You can sit in the back and drink beers. It's grey.

heckler - have a look at the Isuzu D-Max Blade. 5 year 125k warranty, comes with a canopy or roller shutter mountain top, all the toys and gets rave reviews. Way better than the Mitsubishi. I almost ordered one. £24,995 for the manual, £25,995 for the auto, but they will offer a 7% discount and push them for some extras too!

Ah a Chavara. Driven by fat necked, football shirt wearing, Stella drinking knuckle draggers.

Or in my case driven by a Civil Engineer jobbing about the Highlands on and offroad.

Had a work Navarra, chucked it because it was crap off road (wheelbase too long and clearances crap), the brake discs kept warping, it couldn't carry the rated load in the bed without breaking springs, and I looked like a Stella drinking knuckle dragger. The turbo delivery was also peakier than the two trucks below, meaning care was sometimes needed to avoid lighting up the rears when unloaded. Not good on roundabouts.

Replaced it with a Mitsubushi L200, which was better in most respects but slower. However, the L200 was pensioned off after six months and only today I got a brand new Isuzu D-Max. We'll see how that does, if it is more like the Navara and less like the L200 I'll be disappointed.

P.S. I can't understand why anyone would buy any truck for main transport without the need to off road regularly.
