... possibly my first ever.

I've been doing a demo project for a client this week to help them decide if they want to buy this software. Came to their office and worked with a couple of bright and very nice people who were really interested, grasped it all very well indeed and are pretty keen. They listened to everything I had to say too.

It's left me with a rather pleasant buzz - made me realise how crap it can be sat in your own office all the time ploughing through the same old crap unappreciated.

Good for you, I hope you build on that, it being Friday.

😯

How long have you been in your current career? If it's longer than a few years, I'd aim towards retraining before you spend most of your life doing something you don't enjoy.

Its a reality for a lot of people.
They do jobs that they don't actually enjoy.

Bills need paying.

Yep something simlar for me yesterday! luckily it all went to rat I over night and Im in the doo doo for not answering my phone at 4am, even though I'm not actually on call or supposed to be available. Used to be on the phone all the time weekends evenings but I won't fudge figures or hide issues to make me look good so I get passed over by those who do, my own boss sees this happening to me. Need a lottery win!

Still steady job, young kids and all.......

Oh yeah.
Then I could just run around in the woods, playing all day.
No, really, I would.

Anyone from work telephoned me at 4am and they'd wished they hadn't.
Which would probably precipitate me receiving my cards.

Still, its Friday, and looks likes the weather might not be too bad.
😀

Wheres big M ?.

Golden handcuffs. Can't afford the huge salary drop that would result, not right now at least.

This new job is a shift to try and find a way to do what I love in this industry (IT). This week, it's worked, mostly. We shall see.

Plus - what job would I really love? Professional cyclist? Travel writer? Photographer? None are really practical tbh, given my current status as sole breadwinner for a family of four at least.

"for a family of four at least"

You suspect additional children stashed somewhere?

Yes. At least four. I think there are other organisms dependent on us in the house. Flies, spiders, maybe a mouse or something.

Its not a case of retraining - its working in an environment you like. Its the people, not the work that you've enjoyed this week.

My brother and his business partner took a decision that they'd only work with nice people who want to achieve nice aims. Both he and his clients have a nice time working together, which is good because he sells a service that most people resent having to buy.

This (or that). The project I most enjoyed working on wasn't technically what I prefer doing, but working with a good team (and also something where I felt like I was making a positive contribution).

Really it's the work as well as these people. I'm analysing situations, solving problems, working things out, that's what I enjoy. Normally as a developer it's been 10% that and 90% slogging away to actually implement the solution. However as a consultant I don't have to do the slogging 🙂

I intend to.

I'll get approval from Mrs Grips then make some concrete plans. And enter 🙂
