Looking for something for our wee staff base that will last well and not too pricey. Is there anything I should look out for or avoid when purchasing?

EDIT: Mods - wrong forum - sorry

We just got one for the office from Asda. Cost a tenner and works a treat.

I think the amount of coffee thats being drunk would narrow the choices down.

For example i dont think a pod type machine would be economical if people are just make a normal coffee.

I've had a £30 one from currys for 3 years now, works well, doesn't get used every day admittedly but cheap enough to replace if and when it does eventually fail.

If you were nearer I've got one you can have for a few beers.
Filter one side and actually does ground the other!
Milk heater in the middle with a frother too.

My Russell Hobbs once has lasted a few years now, certainly longer than its kettle did.

1/ auto switch off ( I think they are all supposed to do this but its essential)
2/ easy to fill with water - some are a complete pain and practically need a funnel
3/ easy to clean - yes they get gacky..
4/ insulated jug may be energy efficient - but make sure you can see the level otherwise its a pain for shared use.

i have no specific machine in mind - but need to buy one soon so thats my list.

I bought an insulted jug and didn't keep it hot. Got a refund and bought a Russell Hobbs one.

Machine needs to do 4-5 mugs 2-3 times a day. Aeropress, espresso etc not practical. Nor will pods.

I have a Melitta one with an insulated jug. Makes nice coffee, has a timer, keeps coffee hot for a few hours.

What about one of these, a kettle and a set of filters.
Chemex 6-Cup Wood Neck Coffee Maker
You can then look into buying some fresh coffee from a local roaster and make it a proper event.

We have a Chemex and found that it just took too long. We've recently got one of these and it's hitting the spot so far.

Stupid woman. Insulated. 🙄

I didn't realise they were still around, do they still sell their own coffee?

^^^ Bravilor Bonomat or whatever it's called +1.

You need the hotplate to keep it properly hot.

We bought one of these 18months ago when our ancient Krups went pop. I suddenly saw the shortcomings of our old, expensive one...

Doesn't drip, easy to fill, easy to clean, easy to dispose of filters, auto off. Great bit of design.

(Ours was £30 in a sale somewhere)

Had some 'drip' from Coffee #1 (I think drip is the trendy name for filter) that was blooming lovely. Smoother and fuller tasting than espresso topped up with hot for a longer coffee.

Bravilor Bonimat Novo as above in our office.

Keeps up with the demands of software engineers, top deck is handy when brewing up for busy times/meetings.
