...but were. The Way with Martin Sheen. Just brilliant.
The Way is a great film indeed. and along with The Straight Story is up there as one of my favourites for alternative road movies.
Got dragged along to see Maggie's Plan on Sat.
I thought it was going to be too 'Woody Allen' and Greta Gerwig can annoy me a bit.
It was very ,very good and Julianne Moore was on top form.
"Freaks of Nature" - zombie comedy thing, watched with my kid the other week. Expected it to be crap but it was bloody funny. Maybe not great, but damn entertaining.
far from the madding crowd.
Dredd, the newer one.
Watched it last night, enjoyed it.
Inglorious Basterds, however you spell it.
Like QT, but wasn't expecting much.
Spanner, recorded Dredd last night. Another great film.
Deadpool
Ant Man
Tucker and Dale Vs Evil
Cockneys versus Zombies.
Also, saw 13 Hours, about the CIA in Libya. Great/True story.
Quite enjoyed The Lion King too.
Got the BluRay for [s]my grand daughter[/s] myself.

Tucker and Dale Vs Evil
Yeah, good one.
🙂
The Fault In Our Stars.
Expected it to be either over-sentimental Hollywood nonsense or hugely depressing, but it was actually neither of those, which given the subject matter is quite an achievement.
How I Live Now.
Ant Man
Was pleasantly surprised by this a couple of weeks ago. When it came out I thought they were really scraping the superhero barrel but it's actually really good!
Bridesmaids
Grown Ups.
It's Adam Sandler ffs! How the hell could I enjoy it?
MoreCashthanDash, i had high hopes for this thread. : /
Bridesmaids seconded
i wasn't even made to watch it by a girl
Love Actually. Got dragged to that by a girl, thought it was ace.
The Lego Movie. Thought it might be entertaining, it turned out to be mental genius
Oh, Ant Man- I watched it with a weird feeling of familiarity, then noticed it was cowritten by Joe Cornish, suddenly the action scenes enacted with toys made sense! If I'd known that in advance I'd have seen it earlier.
Scott Pilgrim. Was brilliant.
Stardust for me
Troll Hunter
Ex Machina. Watched it last night, was surprisingly intriguing and engaging
I was going to say Bridesmaids before reading the thread. Seen it twice now. Both times on my own 🙂
The fault in our stars is a good call along with What Happens in Vegas.
On a slightly more manly basis Mud.
Another vote for Ant Man
Another "Super Hero" movie, Super. A bit, funny, touching, dark.
Spy. Usually don't like Melissa McCarthy, thought she was the weakest link in bridesmaids, but it's actually really entertaining and quite funny.
How to be Single was surprisingly funny.
The remake of Walter Mitty was pretty good, I had very small expectations
Was really quite enjoyable.
Kickass.
Not really into comic book things but thought this was great.
Second one was a bit of a disappointment though.
Good thread. Though I do wonder whether "films you didn't expect to be shite" would exceed it tenfold.
Attack the Block
Ghost Dog: the Way of the Samurai
I wanted to see The Counsellor, had zero expectations and thought it was very good.
Ghostbusters remake. There. I said it...
Can't dig a hole at the moment
Permanent meltdown of the forum...the thread that breaks the server's back already groaning with all the brexit stuff it finally toasts it's own hard drive in a bid for the quiet rest of silicone heaven.
Seen a couple lately, one by accident - Cop Car with Kevin Bacon
And one that we just put on not knowing what to expect - Predestination with Ethan Hawkeye.
Both a good watch IMO
Ex Machina. Watched it last night, was surprisingly intriguing and engaging
And not at all to do with the eye popping amount of gratuitous nudity
An old one; The English Patient
I watched The Fault in Our Stars on a 24 hour flight. I don't know if it was the altitude, the fatigue or the free booze but I very nearly didn't keep it together!
And not at all to do with the eye popping amount of gratuitous nudity
Nope. I watched it with my 13 year old and we both enjoyed it (the film!)
I got dragged along to see Silence of the Lambs protesting that horror films bored me, it was all unbelievable and I preferred documentaries etc etc etc.
I had a nightmare that night.
Stardust for me
And Princess Bride.
Both wonderful, wonderful films.
Pleasantly surprised by Straight Outta' Compton. Realise there was plenty of artistic licence being used, but still painted the main characters in a less favourable light than it could have done, and was very watchable to boot.
Eddie The Eagle
was surprisingly watchable.
Great Expectations. 😆
