So broke up from missus two years ago and have been seeing a girl, who's lovely by the way, since October time.
In January at about 2.30 am my new girl begins to get text messages from me which were random and then became vulgar.
It obviously told her that these messages weren't from me as it was happening, because receiving the messages woke me up.
I have an I phone and Mac-book pro, both of which were open and near me at the time.
Skip forward 3 month and me and the current girlfriend are having a tricky time deciding what the future holds for us and if we are going to keep it moving forward or whether our wants and needs aren't the same. (Kids Marriage - The small stuff)
Low and behold later that night after I had fallen asleep a message about an ex - from 20 years ago gets sent to my current girlfriend which really hasn't helped things.
I went into the apple store to see if I had been hacked and they found that an old iPhone was still linked to my i-message account. This phone I gave to one of my kids as an iPod as it wouldn't recognise a sim card. so the question is.....
1) Has my ex from 2 year ago , the one i have kids, with got hold of my old phone and been screening my text messages and been really spiteful and vindictive and sent the message more than once?
2) Do I text in my sleep and have no idea that it has happened?
3) Has someone else been screening my messages and getting involved?
Answers on a postcard.

I'm not sure you are going mad.

It is possible that you could still use an old iCloud linked device to receive/send iMessages, so if the old iPod was linked, then that could do the job. An example would be me using my laptop to send/receive iMessages which would normally go to my phone. Typing's easier than texting, so it makes sense sometimes.

I'm not sure how you would find out which devices are still linked to your account, but the internet may help you with that.

I take it you have now changed your password?

I'm betting 1. Change your icloud passwords and bin the device from your lists of 'approved' devices.

iMessage is a bit of a mare, particular till Family Sharing came along

I have changed password and stopped I-cloud messaging on mac and new I-phone. I was hoping to get the kids to find the iPhone at their mums and bring it back. I had to speak to her yesterday and asked her if it was at hers but she didn't know anything about my old I phone and doesn't know what it is or looks like even though my son has been using it for over a year as an iPod - Not now though as he got a huddle for Xmas.

That'll be option 1 then. Do what brassneck said and clear approved devices and change your password - doing both is important.

Bro was in a similar position.

He's currently in the throes of a divorce. He and I text chat on Google Hangouts. He was telling me about something irrational his soon-to-be-ex-wife had done and I was advising him about how to protect himself from her making trouble.

Two days later he said that the ex had calmed down and wasn't being silly any more and he thanked me for having a word with her. I hadnt....

We think she'd been reading our text chats on an old iPad that he had given to their daughter. Quick i-password change and he's back on track. It also made him realise he needed to change a lot of other passwords etc while he was at it, as she's an untrustworthy snake in the grass.
