I've seen a 2012 Scudo camper conversation I quite fancy. Had a quick look over in the show room and it looks pretty sound.
Before I go back for a test drive, has anyone got experience of a '12 plate Scudo and what to look out for / pay attention to?
Thanks
unless its high milage id be concerned about the camper conversion than the base vehicle.
do normal vehicle checks and HPI ensure no outstanding finance.
take for a drive listen for unusual knocking/engine noises etc
pay attention to how it drives , is it a factory conversion or something someones knocked up . often weights are not adhered to in home builds and this makes for undue stress on the vehicle and poor performing suspension.
check out the underside for propoiatory parts - airbag assistance , rerouted exhausts etc - these can be significantly more pricy than the stock parts to repair/replace
if its a pop top get the roof up , get outside and look for damage to the fabric , check it goes away nice and easy.
Check all interior fixings and fittings work(camper/caravan stuff is pricy if its at all availible for your model)- and if a camper of this age from a dealer id be looking for safety certs for gas and electric.
get in all nooks and crannys look for any signs of damp.
check round the exterior for mismatching trim/shut lines etc as campers often have poor visability and although a scudo isnt big many folk struggle to reverse them onto pitches with mirrors.....
This is not at all related to the op’s question as tr has that pretty much sorted.
But many people struggle to reverse anything

That's great thank you.
We've spent the day at the camping and caravanning show at the SECC pouring over set ups - the one we say yesterday still looks really good value.
Will take it out for a test drive shortly and see how we get on.
Thanks chaps (and chapesses)
Which engine? 1.6 is reliable enough but very slow. 2.0 faster and I think 6spd.
What TR said. If it is NuVenture coachbuilt check if it started life as a new chassis cab or if they chopped up pre-registered panel van (I know a long time ago they used to do both)
Our Dispatch Combi just hitting 100k and 10 yrs. One cv boot clip broke early on which could be tht mot fails listed above. Cleaned, regreased and a proper new metal clip has been fine.
Turbo heatshield cracks but I made an extra little bracket to fix.
Any front suspension creaks or knocks are usually a minute amount of play in arb saddles. Goes away once warms up. Design might now have been improved as warranty fix was new arb which meant dropping subframe. Aftermarket split saddles are now available.
Broke down for the first ever time last summer. Traced to a tiny hole rubbed in fuel pipe sucking air in.
Overall has been pretty reliable and taken us all over Europe.
I prefer the driving position compared to more upright Vivaro and T5 we have at work. Might not suit if very tall (I'm 5 10 and only 1 click off seat fully back). Also needs more lumbar support.
It's the 1.6 engine and a pro conversion - granted it's not going to win le mans, but so long as it can get to circa 50mph by the end of a motorway slipway I'll be content.
It'll just about do that. Don't plan on overtaking anything 🙂
We had 9yrs with older 1.9td Scudo before this one. The same 90hp in that was much better. I like the way the 1.6 drives generally but half the pedal travel just does nothing. Saying that, we have survived numerous autobahn trips.
Are you planning on any rear seat passengers? We used to do seat belt anchorage testing of conversions at work and I've seen both very good and very bad....
Rear seat can be a major cost and safety corner cut and salesmen are often clueless (at best) or outright liars (at worst).
I just sold a 1.6 scudo van. Ok van, nice size, but underpowered, it will sit a 70 but any incline kills speed, around town I found myself revving very hard to get performance. This was driving nearly empty.
Speed or lack of depends where you come from.
Our shop van is 1.6expert and feels like a hot hatch compared to my own older 1.9 non turbo expert.
And I’ve been all over the uk in my slow van riding and surfing just take your time and it’s fine
I was coming from a citren relay van hitop, so not a sports car.
