What the hell is wrong with mobile phone companies?

I changed my bank at the beginning of the May, which meant changing my direct debit to Orange. They tell me on the phone that they can't change the bank details for May as the bill has already been produced and would take effect in June. Fine, so I leave more than enough money in the old account and leave that open until Orange are paid. Now they swan over to the new account and double the bill for this month. The old account was closed (god knows what happened to the money) mid month so I can't access it now to check the statement and Orange have frozen me out of their website because they're claiming missed payment.
No I know I maybe should have checked the account again and perhaps the bank shouldn't have closed the account with funds still in it, but would it kill Orange to send you a letter or *shock horror* a text message, because they can do that to get me 2 for 1 tickets at Flamingo Land or tell me about some *ing movie they're butt *ing through the local overpriced cineplex
