We're considering a week in the Alps sometime over the next few weeks. Took a look at ferry and tunnel options and nearly fell off my seat at the prices.
Ive been doing this trip 2-3 times a year every year for the past 10 and I don't think I've paid much more than £120 for a return.
Everything now seems to be around £400 for anything I've looked at, for travelling at the weekend.
Is it demand and all the cheap tickets are gone, or have they jacked the prices right up???
Old man went Newhaven Dieppe last Saturday night in a 6m van.
120quid.
£200 to get to the Isle of white... So I'm told. 😯
You should try the ferry to Ireland, regularly that price the thieving bastards.
170 return Dover Calais in July for us in a van.
I tried a price comparison site recently and felt the prices were high so went direct to the company (dfds) and saved £50
We went 2 weeks ago, Dover-Calais.
The ferry is usually 2/3rds the price of the tunnel.
The tunnel was cheaper this time. Car, out Friday, back on Monday was around £145, £25ish more than expected. I expected the ferry to be around £100, but it was £150.
You should try someone who's not going away but has tickets already that could be transferred
🙂
I heard from a few people that ferry & tunnel prices had ramped up. An element of cashing in I suppose, demand driven by folk not wanting to fly.
Not done it for a few years but if its cheaper, we took the caravan over a few times & I always preferred Dover - Dunkirk. Its not the most glamorous arrival in France but, if heading towards Paris, I always seemed to get a good chunk of the way on toll free roads.
