So old bacon face has had a go at Jason Roberts over his decision to not support the Kick It Out campaign, as a protest that until the FA start to deal properly with racist incidents then the campaign is basically lipservice.
And now Rio Ferdinand has also come out in support of that decision, OBF is going to discipline him within the club.
Am I missing something, am i alone in thinking that a septegenarian white guy should listen more to the voices of black players in the game about the validity of these campigns rather than make their decisions for them?
Or the players should listen to the boss ?
Both arguments make sense, but I'm guessing mine is the one the one that's more likely to happen.
Maybe if it was refusing to wear a club poloshirt for travel or turning up to a function in jeans rather than club blazer then yes.
But on a matter of conscience as this seems to be?
What has Fergusons age got to do with it?
As a septegenarian Scotsman I'm sure he knows a fair bit about discrimination.

Probably does - but his actions in this case also suggest he is miles out of touch with the way feelings are running in the game currently.

Have to say, you're wearing well Druidh.

Almost all black professionals in the game have said to Jason Roberts, Joleon Lescott et al that they need to join the cause to give it greater strength rather than splinter off and divert attention from the real issue.
I'd suggest that you might not be as tuned in as you think, although I'd also suggest that anybody referring to Fergie as old bacon face is probably pushing another agenda.
I'm with Jason Roberts + Rio, all the wearing of badges and waving of flags over the previous 5+ years seems to be basically lip service, ticking boxes. When ManCity get fined more for turning up 1 second late for a match than nations are fined when their fans racially abuse others then something is wrong.
Anton Ferdinand
John Terry
Rio Ferdinand
Rio needs to keep his nose out.
Maybe I'm not. But to me this should be like a free vote in the commons, not a party policy. If Ferdinand's conscience prevents him from doing it, for Fergie to then suggest he'll be dealt with doesn't sound right. Maybe something for other players to talk to him about, maybe even Clarke Carlisle, but Fergie getting het up because it's 'embarrassing for him' - sorry, doesn't sit with me.
As for Fergie = OBF. It's a relatively common colloquialism on here, but you're right, I don't like him for many reasons. But equally true would be to say i don't like Rio Ferdinand much either yet I think he's perfectly entitled to express his opinion in his own way in this matter.
A couple of years ago I had the pleasure of meeting Alex Ferguson and having a discussion with him about the behaviour of players in the modern game. He came across as someone who values hard work and integrity very highly and hates prima donna players with a passion, hence why he moves on players who start to think they are bigger than the club.
Knowing that, and following todays incident, I think that Rio Ferdinand wont be playing for Man Utd for much longer.
He also said that Fergie time is simply one example of him doing whatever it takes to win the game....
I'm a life long Liverpool fan, but I thought that AF was a top bloke to speak to.
