Try Rae Morris. Stunning voice and some great tunes. Also the girl from Hydria has an amazing voice, and I love their heavy rock version of Genesis' Entangled.

It's only due to LaLa on 6Music that I'm going, she had Rae as MPFree a couple of weeks ago, the day before Bombay Bicycle Club were in session, and Rae was with them. I downloaded the song, and did a quick search, and discovered she was playing Chapel Arts in Bath. Without 6Music it's unlikely I'd have found out about her, or a great many of the artists on my lists, which have come from my Shazam tags over the last couple of years or so.
6Music has cost me a huge amount of money over the years, both gig tickets and CD/downloads.

For something with a bit more bite... Deap Valley:

And the lovely Lzzy Hale:

If all their stuff was like this they could take over the world, unfortunately they also do some navel-gazing dross. But this song ^^^ is possibly my favourite track of all time.

I thought this was gonna be a (justifiable) rant about female singers. Lead singers are just a nightmare.
Every female singer I've ever been in a band with has threatened to kill me at some point. What does that say?

Anyway, Emily Haines of Metric is the bomb.

And of course you should check out the legendary hybrid 6.0

Probably a lot more about you than it does about them, seeing as the threats seem to be unanimous.
It wouldn't be because they occupy the bit of the stage that would otherwise be occupied by a sweaty bloke with a guitar gurning in an embarrassing fashion?
Not for nothing did the male members of bands fronted by attractive female singers become known as Sleeperblokes, because everyone in the audience is focused on the cute babe out front, ignoring the otherwise anonymous blokes lurking at the back.
And Louise Wenner was much more attractive than the other three.
Jealousy has obviously gotten you nowhere.

Sarah Brightman in Dive. Got to listen to it a couple of times, then it's addictive... 🙂

Some good old stuff has been mentioned, but I'll add

Marianne Faithful in Yesterday
Mary Hopkin in Earth Song
Mirrielle Matthieu

Wow, someone else knows about the only good album Mary Hopkin managed to record, Earth Song Ocean Song! I have my original vinyl copy upstairs.
I hesitate to mention her, but the three recent EP's by Charlotte Church are really good, a complete change of style.
I'll have to go back to the other list that someone linked to, (ears burning much?), 'cos I can't remember what I put on there, but I'm sure I mentioned Metric and Emily Hayes. She's done a solo album, different in style to Metric; Emily Hayes And The Soft Skeleton.
Ha, just looked at that other thread, and I'd forgotten that list included Howling Bells and Metric. Just to save time, I'll repeat it again here:
Shawn Colvin
Sea Of Bees
Shelby Lynne
Scarlett Johansson
Sandy Denny
Kris Delmhorst
Ren Harvieu
Aimee Mann
Amy LaVere
Julia Stone
Anna Calvi
Auf Der Maur
Cerys Matthews
Eddi Reader
Emily Haines
Emma Pollock
Emmy The Great
Fiona Apple
Gemma Hayes
Grimes
Heidi Talbot
Inara George
The Indigo Girls
Jane Siberry
Jesca Hoop
Joan As Police Woman
Karen Ann
Judie Tzuke
Kate Rusby
Ladyhawke
Laura Marling
Lisa Hannigan
Luik
Lykki Li
Maria McKee/Lone Justice
Mary Epworth
Mechanical Bride
Natalie Merchant
Neko Case
Niki & The Dove
Oh Laura
Patty Griffin
There's more, but those should keep you ticking over for a while.
There's bands like Howling Bells with great female singers, Emily Haynes is Metric's lead singer, so check them out as well.
Oh, and there's Tanya Donelly, and her band Belly.

I set 'em up, you knock 'em down 😀
(But yeah, a threat is way better than this! 😯 ).

Like a lot in that list.
Needs The Tunstall in it though.

Whoever described Martha Tilston as North American... wuuut?

And I think Bic Runga might've got left out.

You heard it here first

I thought this was about recommended new stuff for the OP, not just listing every female singer possible!!
Who the hell won't have heard of them??
