Mountain Bike/Wet Tramline Interface.

All cleaned and tcp'd now lying down with an ice- pack.

Any tips on the best way to look after my leg as the skin comes back?

Visit a Minor Injuries or Walk in Centre they will dress it with some nice fancy dresses to help it heal.

Thanks Drac. Can I do that in the morning rather than right now?
I used the brush.

Screamed a bit.

Co codamol, tea, marsbar, antiseptic so far tonight. Not in pain yet.

You can make your own dressing with olive oil and balsamic vinegar.

I only have Raspberry Balsamic.

Will that suffice?

Leave it in the air or not. Got a light dressing on atm.

fancy dressing plasters as Drac says - can't recall the name but they're great, leave it on for a few days, skin renewed underneath. Magic! wife used to have a supply but no longer 🙁

ouch. Edinburgh, aren't you? can imagine it'll be carnage for a while ..

I feel your pain, did it myself last week, used cling film the first night, then it dries out. Minor injuries said no dressings. Am mobile but it's not much fun. Good luck!

I thought it would just be commuters on Ridgebacks getting caught out. Downhill opposite the Scotmid before Haymarket.

Always my left side too.

At least I have a carer.

do NOT leave it undressed, you should cover it with a sterilised dressing for at least a few days.

Hydrocoloid dressing for the healing win.

They do the same job as a scab, keeping the wound moist, clean and protected while it heals, but without yer typical scab's seeping, cracking, messiness and inconvenience. Keep it on for a long as you can. Replace it if it comes off.

Highly recommended for lost skin.

Yup. Hydrocoloid or moist healing patches. Boots do an own brand one. Looks like you might need a size L for those!

Aside from anything else, report it to the council and to Spokes, who are keeping tabs on this sort of thing.

Yup, they might have a brand name and not be completely obvious but ask the assistant and they'll sort you out. They really are well worth it. Personally I'd be tempted to go get that looked at by the experts though.

Cling film to stop bed sheets sticking.

Mefix good for stopping pain/clothes sticking. Leave on few days. Douse in olive oil to make easy to remove (serious)

Edit. Double post.

Posey leg flex unintentional.

Changed dressing, it's stopped bleeding.

Was more worried about the knee side of it but I'll live

It'll hurt more on Thursday than tomorrow, a week on mine still f n hurts. Started the e45 on it now to ease the tightness of the skin. Every time I stand up or if I stop walking it feels like someone is inflating a balloon inside my calf/knee, worst bit is going for a pee; walk to loo, stop, get the flow going, then pain in knee strikes... 😈 it eases after 30 secs or so but not nice. We should meet and compare, I'm in Edinburgh everyday.
EDIT you don't have to come to the loo with me though.

You can get dressings impregnated with manuka honey. Used them on horses, remarkably effective and they don't appear to sting.

Erm, probably not going to get one this time of night though. Perhaps mustard is a viable alternative? 🙂

Tegaderm dressings from 3M. Keep it moist. Not cheap. And iodine spray to keep it disinfected.

Mine comes off this week so I can admire then new handlebar-shaped hole in my leg.

mepilex dressing is also good,
keep the wound covered!

that's the advice I would say.
Also my pharmacist friend said the same thing to me. She's looking into the effectiveness of manuka honey in wound dressings, her research seems to show that it has amazing healing properties. Be careful as her tests show that some supermarket manuka honey has hardly any manuka in it, so don't go spreading it on.

anyway I came off on the road doing 15-20 mph and had road rash, was horrible, used mepilex dressings, replaced and cleaned the wound regulary, kept the wound covered for maybe 2 weeks until new skin formed without scabbing and scarring.
much quicker healing and there's none of that breaking the scab and it bleeding business. The advice of leave open to air seems to very wrong.

Tegaderm is the business, heals faster and stops it being chafey,it acts a lot like a second skin. Also, like with most of these magic bandages it looks superbly manky while it heals. It is expensive to buy though

One area where paying a bit more gets you a much higher UMF, look for 16+ to make sure it actually has some of the antibacterial properties you want. Bit of a regulatory mare here on this at the moment.

Right, well, it could be worse.

Have to work on it so I'll see what the local pharmacy has for me in the morning.

Why always the left knee aswell? It's got an MRI booked ffs. Sigh.

Could've been so much worse, headline

If you'd taken a bit more skin off you wouldn't need the MRI... 😈

The advice of leave open to air seems to very wrong.

Keratinocytes produce your new skin but have to dissolve the scab to do so. The drier the environment, the harder the scab and the slower the healing process.

Work was grim. Now, is a bath a good or bad idea before changing the dressing .

I have had many injuries in my time, but haven't had a graze like this since it was mums job to fix it.

I had a bath - it wasn't that bad, no where near as bad as washing the grit out after it happened. I also spent a big portion of today picking at the scab, that will entertain me for weeks to come.

Hills, it's good to have you a wee while ahead on the recovery boat.

My job prevents me from sitting down so bath, drugs, convalescence tonight.

Looks manky.

Edit: btw, never did go to minor injuries. Oh well.

Used Tegaderm for 5 days. Looks ok.

Had to use dry dressings over the weekend, couldn't get to the pharmacy.

Have melolin ones now.

I have been a miserable bastard this week.

Only Adam Brayton has helped me gain perspective.

Cheer me up.

Restoration is well underway, was out with my New Troy Lee 5045 knee/shin pads last night. No worries.
Skin now just looks flakier than an accident in the Kellogs depot!

My very, very old Fox shorts were due replacing, I was about to buy exact replacements until this happened.

However, I'm now getting 3/4 ones. One Industries probably.

Calf is fine, it's the knee.

Pumice, or not pumice?
