So in June 2019 I had a crash on my bike and main injury was damage to my shoulder - according to the physio it rotated my shoulder joint and shoulder blade forward, pinching a nerve and giving me pain down my left arm.

March this year I was due to have an medical exam for the injury claim, but it got cancelled due to Covid, and it was around that time that I'd got to the point that I wasn't noticing it giving me any problems and assumed it was healed.

A week last Friday the long delayed medical finally took place. The doctor pulled me about a bit to test the mobility of the joint, and it was a bit tight in places, but nothing painful. Over the next couple of days the shoulder got tight and sore, assumed it would ease off over the week, but it's got worse instead, to the point that today I gave up on a ride as it was so uncomfortable and needed a couple of paracetomol to take the edge off. Feels like it did a year ago, pain through the shoulder and down my arm if I move it in certain positions.

The only thing I can think of that could have aggravated my shoulder was that exam - done nothing else to injure that arm this week, been working from home since April so it's not a different work position or anything like that. I'm assuming he's pulled the joint in such a way that it's shown up a remaining weakness, (to be fair, a half nelson is not a usual position for my arm to end up in) or it simply hadn't healed 100% and needs more work/time.

Anyone had anything similar - I'm not blaming the doctor for aggravating it, but got a feeling I may need to see the physio again (last seen in February) and let heal it some more before I ask the solicitors to settle the claim.

Nope, the doctor has found it isn't healed. Had a right nightmare with mine for about 4 years. Surgery took two years from accident, then healing another two. Crashed on it since, and it was fine. The claim took over 4 years. I didn't break anything in this crash, but needed the joint cleaning out. Then it took even longer. The specialist reconne it would have been better to break my colar bone rather than damage my ac joint. All OK, but took years to heal.

My operated on shoulder is better than the non-crashed shoulder these days.

yeah, my title wasn't the best chosen, I realise it's not the doctors "fault", but disappointed after 6 months of no problems to be back here again.

Not sure how to take it forward really - GP wasn't really interested and just suggested private physio. Think I'll go back to him and see if he can come up with any ideas as to whether it might be more serious and maybe need a scan or xray to see what is happening in there

I suspect it had settled but not healed fully. When range of movement was really tested this showed up. Further physio might help improve it further to get you further up the recovery tree.

I had a grade 4 AC separation that healed eventually. Still can’t lie on that side but movement isn’t so bad. No op for me, I decided to just leave it and see. It’s not been a bad option.

this would be my guess as well - you had been pprotecting the arm by how you moved it. after My shoulder injury I thought i was rehabbing well but found out two small muscles had actually atrophied away to almost nothing because of the way i had been moving my arm to protect the injury

As others have said you have been protecting it and now you (the doc) tried to use it properly it showed it’s not right.

Other doc is right too, at this stage private physio realistically only route available. Hopefully they get it working again over a series of visits, if they don’t then you have reason to go back to the GP.

Or go back to GP a few times and say life is unbearable and they may refer you to MSK. Unfortunately current situation means that could take quite some considerable time!

I'll be ringing the physio on Monday morning I think.

Another thread that TiRed OBE has brought clearer communication to quite nicely.
