You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Partly because I am getting that way but also because of some weekend reading. Facing a couple of days travelling I loaded the iPad with Hunter S Thompson and a couple of movies.
I'd forgotten just how good Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail was after not having read it for a couple of decades. And then I noted that the end has the date '72. I read it when it was first published in 1973. 45 years ago. Still very readable and gives that feeling of how that period was in the US as it crawled through the whole Vietnam saga and the politicians who fed off it.
that's nothing, I went to a university Fresher's Fair last week...
I did not watch the Pole Fitness demonstration.
Please don't make this a competition... 🙂
heheh, don't worry! that's the last thing i'd want to compete on 😉
that’s nothing, I went to a university Fresher’s Fair last week…
Me too. walked through the whole thing and not one person offered me a flyer
Age is a state of mind.
What state's your mind in 🙂
I’m seen as the ‘work dad’ to the young people in my department...
I'm 40 today. 40's not old in the grand scheme of things but still, it puts my feeling old level to 100.
Especially when I spent all day working with "mature students" who are all younger than me.
Happy birthday northwind...you old ****er
Glorious, bear! Glorious!
I’m 40 today. 40’s not old in the grand scheme of things but still, it puts my feeling old level to 100.
Young whippersnapper.
I had to persuade my Mum to take me to see Goldfinger when it came out (1964 if you can't be bothered to Google it).
I figured old is when people start telling you how someone they know (your age) had a heart attack last week; and when you just get used to the fact that things hurt when you stand up/ sit down/ try to sleep.
Oh, and you make an "oof" noise when you sit down or get up.
I just turned 42. Mentally I feel young, physically I’ve got a slipped disc and fricking cateracts! It’s making me feel older than I really should, it’s rubbish.
35 today. Not feeling old! Haven’t even reached my midlife crisis yet. Got a few years to decide what that is!
I'm second oldest in my office, but between me (48) and another lad (40) we kick the ar$e off the youngsters half our age for activity, and injuries - "what have you done now" ? He's a cyclist too.
At best it's a bit of football or gym once a week for the younger lot. Mention getting filthy dirty on a MTB - ohh nooo.
I'm 31, I did a coordination test in hospital earlier this year that put me in the 75+ category! I also knit :D. My body feels old but my mind doesn't which leads to some interesting situations :). Also not had a mid life crisis so I'm not actually old.
Get stuck into some coke and hookers! Then you can feel old but also feel conflicted with both enjoyment and the subsequent self-loathing
Hey... I don’t make the rules. That’s just what they are 😀
Happy birthday Northwind you young whipper-snapper! Marking the big day with the afore-mentioned C&H’s?
Or Bake Off?
Would you recommend the book OP?
😁😂🤣
Jesus Christ ..every one of you are talking yourself old years before your time ..get a ****ing grip !
I've got at least 20 years on most of you ..but my mental age is years younger than you old gits !
Some are, but I do loads more 'stuff' than the kids do. Yeh they get leathered, I can too, but how many 'kids' do .....'DANGEROUS STUFF'... it's all Twitter....
Not one could I drag round a trail centre - 'oh the bike's dirty'....
There are some really pretty lasses in my office, but none wouldn't go so far as get on a bike... Half my age ??? I tested my missus how well she fell off my MTB 25 plus years ago - winner - landed on her feet. I couldn't ever get on with these 'make-up' etc. kids - I feel so sorry for my son - no wonder why he does gaming... This 'social media' thing stops them all talking.
Go to an 18 year old's party - all sat round texting everyone in the same room now... WTF.. They can't talk...
I’d love to go to an 18yr olds party 🤣💪👌🍆

Took my nine yr old training for a cross country she’s competing in today. She smashed me over the last 300m (8.29m mile). I feel like a very old 51 yr old right now.
Age is a state of mind.
What state’s your mind in
It’s more what state my knees are in. And my left shoulder, my fingers... ☹️
<saves image> Cheers!
54 year old here, age is a state of mind, I personally want to party and carry on like an 18 year old, the boss isn't as active as I am so feels her age.....
It's what you make it, enjoy it, and enjoy what you can, evre if you have to push yourself just be happy because your a long time dead.
I know the feeling, had the pleasure of freshers week last week, start properly tomoro. At 43.
Shits gettin real.
Feeling old, eh?
Cackle... 🙂
😁 indeed.
Yes bikebouy I'd recommend it, but if you could find a copy of The Great Shark Hunt you'd get a broader insight to his writings. I was a bit of a politics junkie back then so I loved it. And in a full "When the going gets weird..." moment five years later I'm taking a head man from the White House Plumbers for a curry.
yup
At 57 I hurt all the time, that feels like getting old.
42 next and still see myself as pretty young.
Not many pain free days at 54.
Still race DH,gets harder every year, training wise and healing takes a long long time.
Difficult to stay motivated as well.Anyway, won my second Welsh champs gold this year in the old farts cat,so that will keep me going for another year.
This guy still shredding at 71 🤟

49 here, don’t feel old until I’m trailing the youngsters up hill or laying on the floor after an ambition outweighing talent moment!
At 42 ..I had just met my current partner ..she was 25 on that day ..just celebrated 20 years together ..
So yeah ..you are still young 😉
Respect to all still having fun.
50 in a couple of months. Have noticed that I'm not as quick or brave on the bike as I used to be. Not that I was particularly quick or brave to start off with.
52 here. Age is definitely a state of mind.
Got my first marathon a week on Sunday. Spent a good chunk of this year preparing. Need another project once that's done.
Keep busy and keep things varied.
I go walking once a year with 2 guys I went to school with 50 years ago, we have a fun game were, when we come across a memorial bench, we work out if we have made it further than the deceased, it's starting be yes we have more often than not. Now that does make me feel old.
I turned 40 this year and maybe it's mental but certainly feel older.
Joints are defo crunchier and stiffer in the morning, To the point I'm thinking a full suspension bike might be a good idea.
Back is a bit grumpier.
I have weird thick sticky out eyebrow hairs.
Hair coming out of my ears and nose more.
And I'm starting to go grey.
Awesome...
64 here and still learning.
I ride regularly and compete in TT's, I hate traffic and love bombing down descents.
I'll carry on as long as my body'll allow me to; and then I'll get an e-bike 🙂
Riding, for me, is the best health insurance (but perhaps not the cheapest!)
Just because you reach a certain age is not an excuse to let yourself go ..you can trim or remove nasal & ear hair ..as for going grey ..embrace it and don't try to disguise it as it looks naff !
So says my hair stylist partner ..
Major ankle op last year to fix arthritis issues, need another soon on the other ankle. I'm 38 going on 60 by the seems of it.
but if you could find a copy of The Great Shark Hunt you’d get a broader insight to his writings. I was a bit of a politics junkie back then so I loved it. And in a full “When the going gets weird…”
I once stayed up all night reading "Fear and Loathing ... ". It does grip you, but in retrospect he was a bit of a tosser and very far up himself.
62 here, started mountain biking at 32 and road cycling at 52. Apart from the current temporary problem of the bust collar bone (lack of sleep making me feel tired) I expect to carry on as fit as ever into retirement in a couple of years and do more walking, climbing, skiing, ski touring, rowing and of course cycling than ever.
@hodgynd Don't worry I have no intention of going the Just For Men route! And I break out the out miniature hedge trimmer on a regular basis to keep the ears and nose hair in check.
@penine where is that photo taken? is it exmoor?
