Does anyone else get this, or should I be running to the doctor?

Since just before Christmas last year, I started getting this weird thing with my teeth/gums on the left side of my mouth. It's not so much that they hurt, but that it constantly felt as if I had some kind of infection. But I went to the dentist about it 3 times, and... nothing. I still get the feeling now, but less frequently.

Since lockdown, though, I have eaten terribly, consumed more alcohol (which still isn't much, but feels like it to me), and done no real, sustained exercise. And in that time, I have had what I can only describe as a lingering sore throat: not actually sore, but it feels as it would at the onset of a cold. Then I forget about it for a few days, and there it is again. I've got the feeling this morning.

Then there is my stomach. I have never had a problem-free stomach, but for the last couple of weeks, it's been terrible. And for the last three days, it actually makes it hard to do any work. It could be food related, but instinct tells me it's some kind of illness.

Anyway, I just feel generally like a wreck, and as far as I can remember, have only had windows of forgetting that I feel awful over the last 10 months or so.

Anyone else get that way? Is it just a middle-aged thing (I'm 48)? Or hypochondria? Or Cat Aids (the bad kind)? Or should I go get my bloods done (not that I can; my GP isn't taking appointments)?

I have been randomly somewhat unwell with unfamiliar but mild symptoms since ooh.. late Feb... almost as if there's some kind of virus going around that mostly affects people mildly but has a diverse range of symptoms...

Try Vit D? I have turned evangelical about it since all my nebulous "ill health" symptoms went away after taking it?

most northern europeans should be taking it in winter unless they eat loads of food that contains vit D

I am aware tho that with my nebulous symptoms and "recovery" it could all be between the ears

Stomach could be stress related or anxiety related.i don't mean mental problems but just maybe mild stress or a bit more anxiety.

Try Vit D?

+1
Could just be placebo effect, but I've also found a regular multi-vit plus separate vitD supplement helpful.

I take multi-vitamins most days. Also I had my symptoms throughout summer when I had loads of outside time - even more than usual in fact.

Maybe try eating better, less alcohol and some proper exercise if possible?

Been a bit similar, diet is down the pan, put on weight and haven't exercised. Constantly keep thinking I'm getting Covid symptoms but nothing more than the hint of a sore throat, general tiredness etc that never turns into anything.

I think in my case it's pretty much down to lifestyle, working from home (started a new job on the day before lockdown), general stress and mild anxiety.

I'd try sorting your diet and exercise first plus the Vit D before assuming low level covid or anything else (although anxiety can bring on a load of physical symptoms). That's my plan although I'm finding it very difficult to get going.

Join the 100 day exercise challenge. We're a quarter of the way through but so what. Just half an hour of exercise every day. Doesn't have to bust your balls. Can be a walk, yoga, or whatever form of exercise you're capable of doing.

What you're suffering is a common syndrome called TMB.

There's no cure unfortunately.

I'd not be so quick to dismiss COVID-19. I'm well used to bouts of unhealthy living, but I'm experiencing symptoms I've never had before in my life, or in new ways. Short bouts of diziness, occasional strange taste symptoms, runny nose that lasts for about 10 minutes, feeling cold and tired suddenly in the evening etc. I'm 90% sure we've had it in the family.

The first thing I thought of when I saw the thread title was ... gum/root canal infection. I've been feeling the same, and it wasn't until a tooth started feeling sensitive to pressure that I remembered the last time I had a root canal infection. The infection can poison the rest of your body. I've had a constant bad taste (not lack of taste) and general sinus and throat problems, going back months. During those months I've had a Covid antibody test (random selection, not because of any symptoms) that was negative so I don't think it's that. Went to the dentist, nothing visible but the X-ray shows an infection around the root and erosion of the bone. Tooth is beyond saving and will be coming out in a couple of weeks (it's not painful and dentist is busy) so I'll see if that fixes the symptoms.

But I went to the dentist about it 3 times

Maybe ask a different dentist?

I would certainly address your diet and alcohol.
Honestly... it's amazing how crap you can feel eating rubbish and drinking too much..
Gum pains are probably a sign of mild vitamin deficiencies..
More fresh fruit and lean meats ..

However, prob seeking proper medical advice given the longevity of your issue

I'd get the blood checked, a couple of times as they only get that sample and dont test for everything.

On mine, seemingly in relation to excessive sweating whenever I exert myself, turned out on blood test 2 to be a leukemia, which they explained was simply an increase in one of the white blood cell types- apparently theres about seven types and they dont check everything on initial tests, just I'd guess an indication of the main ones.
With me they'd also explained that they dont think it will develop into anything sinister, just my blood doing my personal blood thing.

Personally I reckon its the 33/33/33% blood/Weed/Coffee ratio that's causing it 😆

So get an initial, and ask for a repeat prescription.

Molgrips

I thought I spent enough time outdoors to get plenty of vit d but on reflection the only skin exposed to sunlight was my face and on a bike even that gets little sun. Unless you spend lot of time in shorts and short sleeved shirts without sunscreen will not get enough direct sunlight to make vit d

Do you snore? If yes, and it's as bad as I did (do) then it causes a sore throat and you feel drained because you're not sleeping properly. Long term this leaves me feeling very run-down and I get a kind of 'achy' throat (well, back of the gums behind wisdom teeth).

Guess what? Drinking alcohol was a significant factor in triggering my snoring; second only to my weight.

I found stretching my throat a really effective way of dealing with the 'achy throat' feeling - look up yoga Lion Pose for tips on how to do this (You may not want to do it in public!) It's only a temporary fix though and doesn't address the core problem.

Alcohol totally screws with your sleep, which in turn will make you feel shit all the time.

Don't underestimate the effect that even one beer can have, even if it's in the early evening.

I'm feeling rough too. Had some whiskey at the weekend so initially thought hangover. But all my joints hurt, like I've fallen down some steps or something. No energy, stayed in bed till about 13;30 today. Very mild cold symptoms. Could be any number of seasonal lurgs i guess, but gonna chill out at home for a bit just in case.

Apparently there's a virus going round.

I had it in April and that's exactly how it started.

I do. But you're right it's no guarantee.

I had something similar a few years back that lasted for a few years. Initially started off as mouth not feeling 'right', sore throat, heart burn, stomach issues etc. My diet was pretty poor, didn't really exercise and drank too much. Went on for ages, began to scare me and as a consequence I think I drank more to forget about it. It was always there, especially throat/oesophagus.

Eventually went for a camera up the nose thing. Came back as inflamed stomach valve we was allowing acid reflux - advised no booze for month, cut down, eat better etc. Did the month off, cut down, no difference.

After a couple of years of it still happening and worrying it was something horrible I had a go using Headspace, within two weeks it was gone, I carried on the meditation a bit longer then stopped. The throat stuff came back. Did Headspace again and it went away.

I've carried on meditating off and on and paid attention to my breathing and everything has been kept at bay. Diet and drinking haven't been brilliant, but still no issues.

In hindsight I put it down to stress, and particularly unacknowledged stress as I didn't feel especially stressed/under pressure at the time but looking back I was in charge of some big stuff at work, home life was relentless, money was like water, zero time to myself etc - I reckon I just thought everything was normal and everyone else felt the same, so sub-consciously hid it all. It seemed to feed on itself somehow.

Anyway, all fine now, it comes back from time to time when I am really stressed but I know more or less how to deal with it.

Sorry for the ramble - maybe it'll help. Maybe not.

Sometimes toothache might be related to a heart or lung issue.

I get a pain in my upper canines on one side when I'm about to have a heartburn attack. Weirdly specific, and no idea what the mechanism is!

About 6 years ago I was constantly feeling rundown (for at least 6 months, maybe a year), and frequently had what felt like toothache in ALL of my teeth. Various tests and checks revealed the toothache feeling to be the result of frequent sinus infections. The rundown feeling was shown to be really crappy sleep where I was slightly waking myself up many times during the night with some snoring/choking.
Both were due to nasal polyps, which completely blocked my nose when laying down.
Polyps removed, no more toothache, normal sleep pattern restored!

Well I saw it on Frasier once. Preceding his brother's heart attack he was getting toothaches. The internet says it's the vagus nerve.

After having similar problems a few months ago (lethargy, that feeling of constantly fighting something off, generally out of sorts, nothing definitive, but pains where i never normally had them) i found a therapist listed on here bant.org.uk, i sent a couple of blood samples off to an agency and she worked through the results.....turns out i had super low Vit D, an intolerance to all things wheat, my microbiome was non existent and i was lacking in loads minerals like magnesium and zinc. Anyway, we've addressed this and i can honestly say its the best i have ever felt! If you're up for something that is a bit more holistic, give it a go...i got more time and sense from my practitioner than i did from my GP.

The OP's symptoms sound stress-related to me. Look up anxiety on the NHS website and you'll find a quiz that will allow you to assess your own mental state.
