You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Its got to be the Borg Cube!
Does it have to be movies...
The cylinder from Rendezvous with Rama is prob one my fav fictional space craft....
one more vote for the truly brilliant Rocinante

For pure capability and personality it has to be IMB’s culture ships, but the Babylon 5 Star Fury is up there for screen spaceships as the only space fighter I’ve ever seen that didn’t fly like an aerodyne but instead on a firing pass would just spin around to keep weapons bearing on its target as it was in a vacuum. And Ivanova flew one!
Would love to see more illustrations of Culture ships. They sound amazing in the books.
this is quite amusing....

the USS Sulaco blew me away the first time I saw it. Much like the Star Destroyer did a few years before it.
best interior by far

This is coming soon hopefully!

I thought from the outside you’d just see an elliptical field enclosure, and with human senses not even that if they didn’t want to be seen.
O M G !!!

That site claims they actually flew, and one guy still has one that can be flown. I mean, really? What the...?!? Ha, ha...
Ah.. phew... all fake... love it though!
That is an awesome site, soooo many cool models.
I have an old Dinky Eagle, never really watched the series but the ship was so damn cool, from the bulbous realistic-looking rockets on the back to the big bulgy nose. Just discovered you can buy repro parts for that model so I could replace the broken bits, ooooh
Klingon Birds of Prey are awesome. Culture ships might be interesting inside but all you get to see is the fields so they look like bars of soap IIRC- except for ones that look like dildos of course just for a good one-liner.

Free MemberI spent hours building Lego versions of the starfleet bomber when i was a kid.
Me too! Which makes no sense because they were super awkward shapes but still
Mine must have been a Dinky as well, was very heavy for its size. A proper toy.
Just had an email saying that my Eagle arrives tomorrow. Will post some pictures.

I feel you might be buying into a geek fantasy a bit too much

With today's bricks i reckon you could make a much better go of it. My sticklebrick BSG viper squadron was probably more realistic!
I used to love the Space 1999 Eagle too (and had the Dinky toy naturally). I fondly recall many 'landings' of it and watching the feet compress as they had little springs on them for damping.

if we're playing obscure spaceships...

Just makes me think 🤢🍜
Babylon 5 Starfury

Moya from Farscape
When I was a young un it was anything in the many wonderful books of artwork featuring Peter Elson.

I loved the Terran Trade Authority books.
http://www.terrantradeauthority.com/tta-books-2/great-space-battles/
Some corkers here. Star Wars craft will always have a special place in my heart for me, but also Star Fleet X-Bomber...but I don't think anyone has mentioned the Buck Rogers ship which I had a toy of as a kid and was one of my favourites as well as the Hawks ship from Buck Rogers shaped like a hawk and used to capture other craft in its talons.
The USG Ishimura from Dead Space is cool looking. Quite gothic and spooky and fits the tone of the game well. Inside could do with a bit of a clean though
Thunderbird 3, FAB
Come in Alan, Brains has some ideas on switching off the moons gravity....
Cobra Mk3 (with galactic hyperdrive, docking computer and military laser)
Also X-Bomber - Star Fleet was awesome.
Moya from Farscape was a novel concept.
Moya was great. Her offspring Talyn captain'd by Crais? was an entertaining ship also.
Vorlon, Shadow and the whitestar ships from Babylon 5 are good.
I liked growth of the mecha 'ship' in Gurren Lagann. Funny stuff.
My favourite has to be Serenity from Firefly.
Serenity for me too, with the Andromeda a close second, although i'm not sure why...

Wait. Is there nothing from Elite in this thread? I always liked a nice Asp

Had the best navigation system of any - providing you kept chocolate away from it.

@Straightliner I'll give you a nod for
Phoenix from Battle of the Planets.
Detaching things, loads of weapons and a get of our jail free button on the main console.
@nedrapier Bad Taste?
I don't think any have been mentioned but some of the ships from the Halo series are pretty cool. High Charity could hardly be called a starship due to size though, more like a space station. Can't forget The Pillar of Autumn either which is fugly but in a good way.
Buck Rogers ship
Is a too close to a starwars snowspeeder, I suspect most of us remember it more for the pilot

I always loved the Babylon 5 Earth Alliance ships. So boxy and edgy.
Just look at this beauty!
Coolest ship would probably be the Nostalgia for Infinity, but the fan art never seems to match the awesomeness of the books.
It's very hard to look past the Imperium of Man's pimping star cathedrals...

Not a single vote for the Star Trek Dyson Sphere. You lot need to think bigger.
Its threads like these that make me love STW all the more....
Blake 7 liberator anyone
Just look at this beauty!
Good for ramming speed those earth alliance ships 😃

Problem I have with halo is the copy paste from Aliens. The Marines, the Pelican and Pillar of Autumn pinched wholesale. Even grumpy black commanding officer got pinched. Bit too much to count as a nod or reference.
My Black Mamba space fighter for a game. On the mighty Atari XL.

11 year old me would say X-wing but current me think Tie bombers are way cooler looking.
11 year old me would say X-wing but current me think
Tie bombers areMoebius’ floating vessel is way cooler looking.
(fixed for me)
‘Starwatchers and The Floating Vessel’ - Moebius

Most of my favourites already done - BSG, Liberator etc
A mention for UNSC Pillar of Autumn, although its only role is either crashing or being a giant bomb.

Top 5 (ish), tell me I am wrong
0. Saturn 5 (real life)
1. Liberator (Blakes 7)
2. Millenium Falcon (Star Wars)
3. Cheyenne Drop Ship (Aliens)
4. X-Wing (Star Wars)
5. Viper (Battlestar Galactica)

my favourite Sc-Fi ship has to be the humble Eagle Transporter.
The Eagle is a double whammy really - its just the best anyway - designed to look like it does what its supposed to do rather than a Henry Moore sculpture in space.
But its also resonsible for the other really good space ship.
When Han Solo's 'Blocade runner' was being designed for the first Starwars movie Space 1999 started airing and it became apparent that their design was just too similar to the Eagles

So they had to go back to the drawing board - new design and a new name. One iteration on from a 1999 Eagle is a 2000 Falcon
If I could have my own spaceship for personal use, popping to the shops and whatnot, it would be the shiny thing from Flight of the Navigator, complete with floating steps
Either has to be an x-wing or slave 1 for me (star wars fan boi)
Tintins rocket from Destination Moon-simple but elegant.
Perhaps not an all time favourite but mention needed for the Normandy. Spent a lot of hours on this franchise. Between this and the SR2 I think the original wins.

Falling Outside The Normal Moral Constraints
It has to be one of the Iain M Banks Spaceships. Minds of their own, capricious, ridiculously capable.
This might be of interest, it shows the relative sizes of various ships. JMC Red Dwarf is on the lower left, star trek stuff is upper right side.
Right click -> open in a new window to zoom.

Nice and compact if you want to pop home occasionally.
The spaceship poster is great. 👍
For a bit of 'me time', I'd have to pick the X-Wing. For hanging out with mates it would be the Millenium Falcon, even more so if Chewie was part of the crew. Sure, there are loads of others to choose from, but I'll always have a bias for the original Star Wars ships.
Significant soft spot for the Star Wars ship designs, TIE Interceptors for just being fast, fragile and a bit nuts. B Wings for being just a cool design and obviously the classic Star Destroyer for sheer screen presence.
Klingon Birds of Prey are also just cool looking ships as well.
Good call on the TTA books (a few posts back).
I have Starliners and Great Space Battles. The artwork is fantastic, with Peter Elson being my favourite as a kid.
Having read some Culture novels I imagine the ships as if he had drawn them.
Can't do pictures as I'm not clever enough but the alien spaceship from Life of Brian...although really, even though someone already bagged Battle Beyond the Stars, it was always the little super-fast ship from that film I preferred!
Has anybody mentioned The Heart of Gold? 150 meters long, and shaped like a sleek running shoe. It was perfectly white and mindbogglingly beautiful. From the book, not the film.
Yeah I always liked the B-Wing for being a bit left-field (or right-field depending on which way round it's flying).
My other favourite - the Fer de Lance

Damn this thread! Just bought a TTA book.
Did anyone else have the classic space Top Trumps as a kid? Awesome mix of still shots from films and hand-drawn scifi madness.
Fhloston Paradise??

Yeah, it said an Eagle was faster than light and a Cylon Raider was about a quarter of a mile across! The 10 year old me couldn't deal with such bollocks.
Ah well it's "Fate Amenable to Change" for me.

Sorry (NOT 😉)
Millennium Falcon
and real...
Voyager 1

I always liked the very functional Y-Wing even though it seemed to be the Fairey Battle of the Star Wars universe
Several for me - as there seem to be for quite a few others!
- USS Defiant NX-74205
- Millennium Falcon
- USS Enterprise NCC-1701
- Incom T-65B X-Wing
