In spite of my hatred for supercars and my profound disgruntlement with modern 'car culture', I have always liked cars generally, and continue to appreciate the vehicles that first attracted me in childhood.

In no particular order, here are couple of mine. What are yours?

My first car - well one like it. Keys fell out of the dash when I did 63mph. Could drive around on full beam at night and no one noticed. Got 8 up in it once. Reliable as a very reliable thing til I rebuilt the engine!

Roschach has already posted my favourite with a Karmann Ghia, so in a similar vein...

[img] [/img]

When I was a student and doing some part time work, the boss had one of these Scimitar Sabres in a garage under a load of boxes. My brother is into doing up classic cars and I begged him to make the bloke an offer (I was skint) but he wouldn't help me out. Git.

I had to choose.....356 OR Karmann.

The best 911 Porshe never made (Oldish 911 made to look like an older 911 made today!)

the older I get, the more I decide something like this is my dream car

[img] [/img]

Although this model never really existed, it's a bit of a Frankenstein 911, but you get the gist.

Magnus Walkers work

[img] [/img]

But Singer is probably the perfect example

Sorry......what was the question?

Been a lover of fast 'sleeper' saloons, my old 405Mi16 was always a fav:

http://classics.honestjohn.co.uk/reviews/peugeot/405mi16/

And this was a good high-speed distance car:

Had three of these:

[img] [/img]

One black 1600, two red 1800s. Would have another one (preferably a GTI) if I didn't have one of these:

[img] [/img]

(nothing like that condition - yet (it is that colour though)... There's nothing as expensive as a cheap Mercedes!)

Would like to add one of these to the stable (eventually - when the 280CE's fixed)

[img] [/img]

Preferably in metallic green.

Also love these:

Another multiple scirocco owner here.

Last one actually went up in value during my ownership as vw fans used up all the mk2 golfs.

Still love how they look but wouldn't have one again!

Had a serious dose of the hots for one of these:

[img] [/img]

This one recently sold for £50,650 at auction, one of two homologation production cars for the world rally championship, which the team won. This one had 196 miles on the clock!
160bhp from a normally aspirated 2 litre twin-cam was pretty respectable back then.
Oh for a lottery win!
Then I could get one of these as well:

[img] [/img]

Chevette 2300HS, loads of torque from a slant-four 2.3 litre, in a small package. Yummy.

Good call on the NSX. Needs to be a Type R though 😉 Still have a soft spot for these, owned 2 in my time. Fold down back seats meant they were dead good for getting 2 people to biking (and climbing, and camping, and etc etc) in a hurry

Loving that Firebird.

Walked past the newsstand today and spotted 'Classic Car' or something are doing an article on the Cavalier. Magnificent motor, I've owned at least three Mk3's; 1.6GL, 1.8D and and an SRi (I think). The GL was the most I've ever paid for a car and I adored it. Looked a bit like this only less battered:

[img] [/img]

There was a Peugeot 205 1.9GTi on our car park this week. Ooh.

But as for the OP. I always wanted a Mk2S Capri. Never driven one, much to my chagrin.

[img] [/img]

Look at it.

LOOK. AT. IT!

I think a little bit of wee just came out.

Whilst the Bobby Merc SLs are now getting expensive the wedgy ones are in the price range where if you don't like you move it on or throw it away.

Most of my car crush fodder has already been posted. And a Chevette. Which should just be crushed. I rank those owners alongside the ones that still rave about their 'daily' Maestro/ Montego. Daily what is the question... :p

Oh, depending which of the colonies I was in, a 70's Falcon XB coupe or Mustang Mach 1 Boss.

I am a fan of old Fords and proper Mini's. Had 2 MK1 Escorts and still have an early MK3 Capri (stripped down for some much needed tlc at the moment).

My mate has a MK2 Mini with a 5L Chevy V8 in the front, a lot of fun building that from the ground up!

It wasn't great but I've driven worse. Had several normally aspirated 1.9D Fiestas as company cars, utterly dreadful, couldn't cope with slight inclines.

In fact a huge number of cars but nearly every one of the cars that peek my interest is based on a pre 2000 platform.

I know tech has moved on but there's something satisfying/more appealing about a simpler car that doesn't disconnect you from the outside world in quite the same way as boatloads of power and 200kg of sound insulation.

Having said that for chewing up endless tedious motorway miles a few modern comforts don't hurt.

Cougar - Moderator

Walked past the newsstand today and spotted 'Classic Car' or something are doing an article on the Cavalier.

My dad had a couple as company cars when I was a kid, 2 mk2s but it was the mk3s I loved... One was badged as a GLS 1.6 but inexplicably had a redtop in it, my dad used to just go around torching hot hatches in his repmobile 😆 Basically looked like this, all the time

[img] [/img]

And the other a CDX with the V6. That one had lovely greeny blue pearl paint with just a hint of flip... We were going to buy it at the end of its fleet life but it got written off in its last week of service by a truck, I remember when we went to the garage to get the new car it was sat round the back under a sheet and covered in dust and scrapes, all the shine had gone out of the paint, I'd never realised cars were alive, and could be killed, til then 🙁

As a teenager, desired all the 911s, F40s, Countachs, Lotus 7's, Esprits, etc, then all the above as kit cars, etc, but half burried somewhere in the back of my mind was a small fragment of something a bit closer to reality

posted it on the last car thread, but always have had a hankering over old car-based pick-ups, especially caddy's

a lot (compared to my income anyway) of credit card action later, and i've got myself one... (wheels are the next pricey project...)

just in the process of building a checker-plate bike rack for it 8)

This was my last car. Cosworth V6, Gaz suspension, discs all round. About as sorted as a Capri gets. Gutted that I don't still have it.

[img] [/img]
[img] [/img]

Also has this Opel Manta for a while. 16v XE engine with bike carbs. Used to go like the clappers and spit fire
[img] [/img]

I agree with the OP about disinterest in supercars and 'car culture'. I do love awesome machinery and driving though. I've only had daft cars when I could commute by foot or bike.

No interest in having a fast car on the road again. Really want something to use on a track or drifing or something.

Currently at the top of the wishlist;

I'm slightly embarrassed to admitting to knowing this, but that colour was "Russet Brown." (You'd have thought the Allegro marketing typsetters would have spotted the superfluous 's' and 'e' there...)

I drove a lot of cars in the 80s.
The silva turbo was the only one that had acceleration like my motorbike.
Even the supra above never felt that quick.

Oh god, an SM followed by a Skyline and Celica...

...I'mokaynow.

80's J-Tin:

AE86 Levin or Trueno, I wouldn't fuss but it will be hard to find a minter that's not been rallied or latterly drifted to death.

[img] [/img]

N12 Nissan Pulsar or Cherry to you and me. Sentimental more than anything else, was my dads favourite car which he replaced with one of his most hated, an N13 Pulsar sedan, or a Sunny Saloon. Hateful.

[img] [/img]
[img] [/img]

When he went shopping for the abomination I fell in love with its younger and infinitely more attractive cousin.

[img] [/img]

People rave about 200's, Skylines and Silvias but NOTHING has ever come close to the 300ZX in looks. It's not even too hard to find a better engine to drop in if that's what you're after. Yes it's heavy, no it's not the best performing but as a package it's stunning IMO.

Bigrick those Leylands look in just about factory condition, don't look a day over three years old...

I was besotted by 300ZX's right up until the point I drove one. My mate had an S13 at the time and it could run rings around it. I'm glad it was on stock at a mates garage and I didn't have to spend the cash to come to that realisation. Got it out of my system pretty quickly. I went and spent £400 on a Volvo 240 estate instead which was hilarious.

The fastest Jap car I ever went in was an R33 with 520bhp. It was absolutely alarming. I decided not to bother with anything else until I could afford a Skyline but I got over them and never bothered.

Yeah, I would never actually buy one unless I could afford to do it justice which would pretty much involve a rebuild from the ground up. Much like a Delorean really...

Just had a look on howmanyleft for Cherry's. 😥

I had one of these in Oz. Leyland P76 with a 4.4 litre Rover V8.

Nice car let down by poor build quality, but brilliant on dirt roads.

Followed by one of these. Valiant VJ coupe with a Hemi engine and huge wide tyres to keep it all straight. 🙂

Good shout Stoner, a V8 Vitesse would be a real laugh.
