Amy Winehouse - great singer/songwriter, just a shame about all the other baggage in her life.

I got accused of being sexist by an ex because of thinking most female artists are a bit.... sh1te.

Nina Simone is fantastic however.
Ellie Goulding is pretty good of more modern stuff.

Sia has vocalised the likes of zero7 in the past but I really like her solo work.

I love a decent duet - not cheesy slushy stuff, the perfect example would be PJ Harvey with Thom Yorke, then there's the stuff Damo Rice did with the lass he sings with - some great spine tinglers there.

Off to see Lissie again next month too.

There lots of excellent female vocal artists out there, however the majority dont get enough attention or recognition because they are not marketed solely on there ability to flaunt their wares!

IMHO all these have excellent voices.
Beth Gibbons (of Portishead)
Hafdis Huld
Sarah Winton (Nightmares on Wax)
Jill Scott
Lou Rhodes (Lamb)

it's not sexist to discuss women unless you go on to disadvantage them in some way

Which album? I've only got Kala which i think is quite good but I think she's got a couple of others. Seems like a pretty cool character

Thats because she isnt a vocal masterpiece. She's a nice bit of eye candy that can sing ok compared to some of those listed above.

Admittedly she does have a nice ass, but thats pretty much what she restarted / marketed her career on...

Which album? - The latest one... full of drills etc. Don't think it works on a home stereo or in the car, but being blasted out to a crowd of people it sounded really good. Heard her sound checking during the day and even that was pretty good.

Neko Case is doing it for me at the moment (musically speaking). I love female singers, at the risk of being sexist, I think the best singers are female. M T-B, PJ Harvey, Kate Bush, Laura Nero...hell, I even like Girls Aloud in a non ironic way.
