Hearing the Ramones being used on the A.O.com advert leaves me feeling uneasy, when did youth rebellion get hijacked.
God I am old 🙁
Too right. Then Gang of Four on a bloody Microsoft ad.

Not quite the same as selling a commercial product, though, pretty much the same as Soundgarden being used as a movie end-title theme. I have no issues with film and TV theme use, but I'm definitely uncomfortable with the likes of Gang Of Four being used for a crappy Microsoft ad. Tom Waits sued over a sound-alike being used for an American advert, for which I applaud him.
She Sells Sanctuary, used in a Muller Corner ad. Nuff said.
Saw John Lydon on Later w/ Jules Holland. His take was that it paid off enough of his old debts to allow him to get back in the studio recording new material.
Seemed fair enough to me.
Iggy though? No defence there.

How about this - better than the original in my opinion.
The original and sublime version by the Pixies
The reworked version for a Thompson holidays advert
Have to say, it's not a bad example. I remember seeing it the first time and trying desperately to place the tune.
It kind of starts to destroy that view of these bands that were so important to you as a kid and it's a real shame.
Its not just bands. I'm sure I saw Danny Trejo in an Old El Paso advert 🙁
Janis Joplin selling Mercedes cars.

You did! Must have been the the old 'right we need a sinister looking Mexican, better call Danny I spose'
the bands may not always own the rights or they may have sold them to a third party and not realised they would end up flogging a soft drink on prime time telly.
I am not a massive fan, but New Order's Blue Monday being used to sell Mars bars didn't sit well with me.
I don't begrudge bands that I like getting a big payday by letting their songs get used on TV adverts for innocuous products.
Moby on the other hand, can **** right off.
Best example of hit song in an advert ever?
