I bought a 2010 Honda Civic from an independent dealer two weeks ago. It has a fault with the digital speedo. Probably needs the speedo replacing which is expensive.
The car has a years warranty with a third party warranty company. The dealer says go through the warranty company. If that doesn't work go back to them. "We'll cross that bridge if it comes to it" was the phrase used.

As I've only had the car two weeks I'm wondering whether the dealer should be fixing it rather than me via warranty. Any thoughts?

pretty sure they cant fob off their dealer responsibilitys to a third party that quick - your contract via SOGA is still with the dealer.

maybe suggest that to them and that they can chase the warrenty if they so wish.

I had that with a leaky heater matrix. Dealer wanted me to wait till the first month was up then claim the warranty company, I neglected because if/when the warranty company tell you to jog on its not covered then the dealer will try to tell you that you have left it too long to claim them.

My car came with a 3rd party warranty, but sold by the dealer.

When I had a problem they fixed it and dealt with the warranty side, all I did was sign the paper at the end that they'd done the work.

Did you buy the warranty separately, or did the dealer sell it as a part of the 'deal'?

They provided the warranty.
Does seem like they are trying to fob me off. Sounds like I need to do some googling tonight and a bit a research on MSE. Thanks for the tips.

Who sold you the aftermarket, the dealer to you or did he buy it on your behalf/you paid? Check the T&C's- im sure theres an initial grace period that you can't claim within if its the dealer (designed to prevent abuse).

Is there an excess to pay? And/or you can only claim a certain number of times?

If these I'd go straight to the dealer- TBH its his obligation anyway not yours. Hes not a mate etc to help out. Its also within a short period of time.

The dealer included the warranty in the sale of the car. No mention of a grace period. It only says I am covered once the application has been received and paid for. At the moment the warranty company say it's in draft.
No limit to the number of claims, they only limit it to one repair for each repair.
