Evening all, I'm a bit of a fat can't. I'm 6'4"ex rugby player and I believe what you'd call well built.
I'm struggling to get some light weight over shorts. My MTB shorts are Endura Humvee but I'm after some overshorts for touring. My Humvees are just too heavy and too long.
I got a pair of Showers Pass gravel shorts, size 40, they don't fit, the waist is just too tight. In terms of quality they seem to be up there and they're not too long. I'm gutted I'll have to send them back.
So, can any other larger stature riders recommend any alternative?
Ta.

Are Specialized shorts still cut excessively baggy? I'm a bit rhino thighed and the (many year old) pair I have are pretty baggy on me in a good way.

Fat Lad at the Back?

Seriously, I'm more a chunky lad in the middle but their baggies are great for non racing snakes.

(I'm no longer connected to the brand, for clarity)

Thanks chaps, will give them a look, never had Specialized shorts before and never considered Fat Lad at the Back.
It's a shame Endura don't do bigger sizes it their gravel line, I love their MTB stuff.

I've some altura summer shorts that are light n baggy.

My issue is I'm short and fat (or just an odd shapewhen fit)... so if I size up it's all to bloody long

gonso sitivo, I recommend the green pad for MTB or the red for racing bike, they are lightweight, stretchy, don't have silly pop buttons that come unpopped and go up to size 6xl, 40" waist is probably 2xl in gonso sizing, but they are stretchy so do the cm to inch conversion and iMO size down if borderline..

If for touring you are presumably mainly on the bike so how about just going lycra, but having a pair of waterproof shorts for covering your modesty in the café.

They also double up as errrr waterproof shorts, much better imo for dealing with summer rain at least.

I’ve always found Troy Lee are quite generous for their size. Most shorts I’m a 36 but consistently a 34 in TLD shorts or trousers. They do a 40 so might be worth a punt.

Specialized have resized their line and are a lot more fitted than they used to be.

Just a brief update, I've ended up with a pair of Showers Pass XC shorts. After a couple of rides I'd say that they are very well made, extremely comfortable and I'm impressed.
I've been wearing them over my bibs, they have a silicone gripper at the rear of the waistband and seem to stay put.
I'd recommend them.

Thanks for that update. Useful - I tend to prefer bib shorts than those cick in ones. But hate the baggy short slipping down over the lycra of the bibshort all the time

I wish this was more common
