Hi all. I'm currently running my Solaris Max in 27.5 plus, with 2.8 Michelin tyres. I find these grip great but are very slow/draggy.
Any recommendations for a 2.6 fast rolling tyre.
Lakes rider so good puncture protection is a must.
Chairs....

Maxxis Rekon 2.8 perhaps? It really measures ups as a 2.6, rolls fast, is light, yet has proven to be tough enough for me (on the rear of a full sus) so far.

On the hardtail I’ve stayed with proper 2.8 for rock protection and comfort… a ‘fast’ WTB Ranger on the rear. It rolls really well.

Both bikes have something gripper on the front (and 29er not 275plus), so can’t recommend anything up front.

I changed from Minions to Reckon and Ikon 2.6s last week and took them round the Staveley passes at the weekend. Definitely rolled much faster, and no issues with grip when I needed it. BUT then it was über bone dry.

I have Ikons on my Anthem. They are unbelievably fast on road (17.1mph measured average over 35km) but absolutely useless for grip in anything muddy. I love them, but am well aware they are ludicrously bad in the wrong conditions.

Be interesting to see how the 2.6 Reckon/Ikon combo works after this rain.

PS, they are 400g lighter than the Minions in total, which is a fair chunk IMHO

PSS, I imagine puncture protection will be a bit crap as a consequence. We'll see.

Conti Cross king seem to be a good combination of fast rolling and pretty robust. Have them on my plus bike in 2.6 flavour. Black chilli if you can stomach £50 a tyre

Vittoria Mezcals? They certainly roll fast - good grip in dry loamy conditions, but can be a bit of a handful on wet schisty rock.

Which Michelins did you use? Reason I ask is, I put a Wild Enduro 2.8 on my Solarismax, and it's the draggiest tyre I've ever used (except for dh mud tyres). Just going down to the Wild AM on the front and Force Am on the back made a massive difference and still gives excellent grip.

Other thing is, 2.8 on a solarismax already makes it pretty low, I wouldn't put 2.6 650b tyres on mine, no way. That'd be time to put the 29ers back in.

Specialized Slaughter Grid comes in a 27.5 X 2.6 - my son has one on his Remedy - it's great, but wouldn't say its a plus sized tyre

Both ends? You must have legs like cannons!

You lose a little bit of sidewall if you go down to the AM models from the Enduro but they're still good for plus tyres.

I’m running specialised 2,6” 29ers on my SodaMAX...

i get enough pedal strikes on my SolarisMAX running B+ 2,8’s (with 165 cranks) as it is.

i tried a Rekon on the back once, it lasted less than 100m on the downside of the saddle on the Lairig and Laoigh (less than 5 hours riding time) in the ‘gorms..

a tough casing Ranger on the other hand wore out under similar territory (and a new one replaced the Rekon). Not as much grip as a Minion, but a lost faster rolling....

running a 2,8” HR2 on the front, but I like grip over rolling speed on the front...

Ha ha, yes both ends, hence why I'm finding them a struggle. Hope Fortus 35 wheels, so a nice set up.

I'm also interested, I'm running 2.8 Minion DHF front and Rekon 2.8 rear, both in dual compound version on 39mm rims, which I really rate. Need something similar for the miss' bike but she only has 30mm XM481 rims.

I use a 2.6 Ikon on the front of my xc bike.

Very fast rolling and good grip on all but soggy mud.

WTB rangers are pretty quick, and ok grip unless you're properly going for it

Had a Slaughter 2.6 on the back of the full sus. Comes up small for a 2.6 (about same as a wild Enduro 2.4), rolls well, and has a surprising amount of grip in mud.

But they're shite. Literally need to be bang on pressure wise. 1psi too hard and they ping off every rock and root. 1psi too soft and they squirm everywhere. If you're lucky enough to get that right they snakebite when with inserts.

I've hoyed an old front WE on the back while I'm waiting on a Force AM2 coming.

The Rekon will do her nicely on a 30mm rim in the back. That’s what I run on the full suss bike. It’s not a real 2.8, and doesn’t need a wider rim. I can’t help with the front I’m afraid.

Maxxis Forekaster 2.6”? Running one on the back of the hardtail with a 2.5” dhf up front. Been really impressed with it. However you could run the Forekaster up front and a rekon on the rear and it would be reasonably fast rolling but should still have ok grip.

I’m considering a 2.6” slaughter on the rear of my fs bike and have it here waiting until this current batch of wet weather disappears. Run a Rimpact with the Forekaster and plan to do the same with the slaughter. Looking at it I think the slaughter is going to come up with less volume than the Forekaster.
