Specifically,

I have a new pair of brown shoes that are darker at the toe, and at the rear. (In terms of the tone of the brown leather)

Is this part of the polishing process or part of the actual leather?

Is there a name for that effect?

Similar to this:

See how the toe is noticeably darker?

How do you achieve this? I am hesitant to remove the current polish unless I know how to recreate the effect.

I've done it with a pair of charcoaly/black shoes I had, with a clear cream over the leather then adding small amounts of black polish over the top to create different tones over the shoes - would the same work for brown leather?

Fashiontrackworld, I need you!

layers of polish and a bit of bulling. also a small amount of black will help.

I see , so basically just build up the polish at that point more than the rest?

Sounds simple enough!

Just polishing as you would any pair of shoes will maintain the appearance. There's no need to apply a darkers polish to the darker areas of the shoe. A mid-tan should be fine. Nice shoes. Sensible but stylish.

Putting black polish on a shoe of that tone creates a lovely antique patina. Worth considering.

Either way, no need to go for different polishes, but you can gauge how they develop over time with a view to reinforcing the darker front if needed.

BTW, saphir is the best polish available. If you don't know how to polish follow their guide.

Before you go the whole hog with black, try some dark brown. But be aware that once you've done it that's it, it will change the tone. Looks excellent IMO, though. I've got some boots I'm wearing today that were a fairly bright tan - too bright I felt. Went at them with some dark brown parade gloss and now they look much much better.

YMMV! 🙂

If they look that way at the moment surely clear polish would clean and feed them whilst maintaining what you already have.
