You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Nik Turner, one-off free spirit and space-rock legend, has died at the age of 82. I saw him with Hawkwind at Stonehenge festival in 1984 and various times with Inner City Unit and had a very long chat with him on Blackpool seafront.
Oh, that's a shame 🙁
Have always loved a bit of Hawkwind.
Noooo. Had Hurry on sundown on earlier by coincidence. 6 music played Masters of the universe a couple of days back which was ace.
I thought Skelator had finally got one over on He-man....
Yeah, FFS, thought something had happened to Dolph 🤣
Saw Hawkwind many years ago play Bath Pavilion. Was very disappointed that Stacia didn’t get ‘em out for the lads!
Would be very much frowned upon now, though. I think Silver Machine had been a recent chart hit. Yeah, 1972, with dear old Lemmy on vocals! *sigh*, those were the days…
I put the first 2 sides of Space Ritual on last night, in memory of Nik. What a stupendous rhythm section that was - Dave Brock, Lemmy and Simon King. That’s basically it, with DikMik, Del Detmar and Turner himself providing sundry squawks. Even without the chemical enhancement that makes sense of it all, that’s one heck of a band.
You were very lucky to see them in that era.
Sad news.
A recommendation to cheer you up. Nik Turner and Youth.
Very mellow sounds. Essentially Nik free-forming over stuff that sounds like the Blade Runner soundtrack.
Lovely
