You'd have to be a pretty dedicated Ford enthusiast to stump up £14000 for that. It's hardly a classic car of the era, or even a classic Ford. Maybe if it was a 3.0S, but not a 1.6GL.

When you think about it, the nostalgia period that makes cars such as this valuable has only a limited window, not to mention ongoing storage costs... what better time to put it on the market than when peoples memories of the professionals and their boyhood dreams are being stoked by the recent death of Lewis Colins.

£14k would get you a 280 Brooklands with less than 30k on the clock.

My mate bought a £50 Capri in 1991.. one of the really grunty ugly bastards (the car, not my mate)

It was a death trap and ended up being rolled spectacularly down a road through a beautiful wooded valley

Bloody hell, that Capri is immaculate.

Had a 1.6GL and a 2.8i, loved em both, though the 1.6 was pretty shit really, I loved it cos it replaced a Metro that couldn't complete a single journey without breaking down..
The 2.8i was lush.. 8)

I always wanted a Capri when I was in my formative years. I think the chances of me owning one now have faded somewhat...

Weirdly there's 2 on my road owned by different people, both immaculate....well, they're certainly shiny. Probably rotten underneath. I always thought they looked like the poor mans E-type.

I used to drive for Hertz at the time when they had the 3 litre Ghia versions of this and the Granadas, they all seemed to be brown and they went like hell. The first time I drove a Granny though I picked it up from East Midlands airport and when I got to the first corner I threw it round and.... it went straight on! Thank God nothing was coming the other way.

My Dad's mate had one of the V6 Capris, went like a rocket in a straight line, didn't corner so well. He barrel rolled it on the A217 at rose hill...

I've a faded green 2.0 turbo with efi you can have for half that. doesn't drive at the min mind....

I had a 1.6 Calypso on a Y reg I loved it but god was it slow a 1.4 Corsa used to piss all over it and it handled better

A mate had a 2.8i Capri for a while; bloody quick, but horribly unnerving on windy roads, constantly felt like the back end was going to end up going forwards. Scary car. I think the common mod was a bag of cement in the boot...

I had a 3000E Capri, I can still remember the car body twist as you revved it. Oh those were the days when single figure fuel consumption didn't seem to matter 🙂
TBH I made a whopping profit on mine as I bought it for £300 & sold it 18 months later for £3000 as the Capri had stopped production & Classic & Sportscar ran a big article on them, mine was one of only 100 made IIRC

I had a 1983 Y reg Capri 1.6GL during my university days. Acquired it almost by accident, but it was a decent reliable car for many years afterwards. German built, so Bosch electrics and decent (dark metallic green) paintwork. Was running many years after I sold it.

I was however rather jealous of friends with Astras etc, who could actually go round corners and roundabouts at sensible speeds.

Any car from that era, in this condition should be a collector's item.

I never ever liked the Capri, but it is a complete reflection of the era. And that time was, in hindsight, the golden age of driving.

I would think it would go for over 30k, but I'd imagine would be sold to someone who will not drive it.

I had a 78 3.0S with various tuning mods, best was the Holley 4 barrel carb on a Swaymar manifold the secondaries kicked in at about 5000rpm which made things fun well apart from the 10mpg from ragging it sounded great with the 6-2-1 exhaust I had on it.

I did do some work on the suspension and braking but I was convinced I was going to die in it at some point. So I sold it to a guy I worked with who used it as a runabout while he was restoring his RS3100 Capri.

That's lovely. They still look so damn good. Problem is, you wouldn't dare drive it.
