Nice but not fancy, eh. Cafe at the National Gallery ( http://www.centotre.com/thescottishcafe/lunch/) maybe. The Conan Doyle - York Place. Browns on George Street.
Frankenstein place on George IV Bridge neither nice nor fancy buy probably good fun for your 15-year-old. Never eaten there so can't vouch for the food.
Cumberland Bar in err Cumberland St (New Town) is good. Great beers too.
Vin Cafe on mulberry walk
The Cambridge burgers are ace!
Ecco Vino on Cockburn Street is a chilled out wee Italian place if your boy likes Italian food. http://www.eccovinoedinburgh.com
Whiski Rooms on the Mound do good food too. http://www.whiskirooms.co.uk
