Does Family legal cover in home and contents insurance cover the legal expenses offered as extra in car insurance quotes?

It depends is the only answer, need to read your policy docs

Generally family legal protection will exclude motor claims and in particular things like uninsured loss recovery.
For the small difference it makes to premiums I always have both.
