Evening...
Been discussing with mrsvader about finally going on a family holiday abroad... We'll have a 1 year old and an 8 year old. I'd like coastal with nice beaches, sailing and fishing type of stuff, she wants somewhere with a bit of history, places to visit, good food and transport (without driving) minivader will want waterparks and playgrounds, minimissvader won't give 2 short!!! Help us STW, you're our only hope!!!!
Cheers

Looking on going to Lake Garda this year. Seems to tick most if your boxes.

😉

Meanwhile, back on serious ground. Ordinarily, I would have suggested Greece, Turkey or Tunisia, but alas, recent "issues" makes them somewhat more complicated. Italy, Spain or France would seem the safer option.

Port Aventura.
Loads to do, other parks near by.
Plenty of historic stuff in the towns and cities along the coast.
Deep sea fishing.
Mountains and beaches.

Brittany or the Vendee tick everybody's boxes in your op. The Midi if you want guaranteed sunshine.

Villa somewhere between Nice and St Tropez.

Ticks all the boxes, including the waterpark (Marineland just outside Antibes).

Lake Garda, 7 nights self catering or hotel, 6 days riding guiding and shuttling, from £425 http://www.rebbens.info

Pourquoi pas?

St Tropez is overrated and the journey time from say Ste-Maxime are definitely not worth it. But St Raphael, Frejus, St Aygulf are all nice enough.

Or Sorrento. Pompeii, Herculaneum, Naples. Rome only three hours away

Sorrento is your destination, with Capri a breathtaking boat ride away. You then have Pompeii and Naples very close. The antiquities museum at Naples is incredible.

+1 for Sorrento. Fantastic little town and a great area for a holiday

Greece is fine, the Islands that are next to Turkey are probably the ones to show the current sad events.

I'd say Crete.

Great beaches, great food, some interesting Cities (Big towns), have the mountains to explore if you fancy a couple of cooler days.

Don't worry about water parks, bucket, spade, sand sea and a lie-low and you'll struggle to tear them away from the beach.

Barcelona,

Took our six and nine year olds in September, stayed in Poble Nou. Beach was great, metro into the big city in no time, aquarium, zoo, open top buses, whatever you want!

Cheap all inclusive and hire a car. Kids just want swimming and ice screams, and quite frankly your holiday will be better if they are happy.

Thanks for the suggestions, we have gone for a blow out holiday to Cuba, recommended by several friends. France holds a special place in my heart, so much so that the last time I went there it was so bloody awful I drove from cognac to home in one hit just to get the hell away from there. The rest of Europe is great just not France.

Just book a trip to centre parks, no need to tell/ask the wife.
