North Berwick is great - loads of stuff to do - plenty of beaches nearby (make sure to go to Seacliff), the Museum of flight is close by, climb North Berwick Law, boat trip out to the Bass rock, plenty of places to eat in town, easy to get to Edinburgh by train. If the weather is good, I reckon its pretty much perfect for a family holiday - although maybe a bit pricey. Also some good riding to be had and a big fat biking community if you're that way inclined.

Can recommend North Berwick, camped there last year and it's lovely!
Nice beaches, walks and shops.
Thinking about going back this year.

North Berwick would be a really nice place to base yourself on a family holiday. It's a really pleasant and well kept seaside town. Trips to see the birds on the Bass Rock leave from there as well which is a bonus. Dunbar is worth a visit but is much less lively and I think a little smaller. The John Muir country park (where Eastlinks is) is a fantastic day out for everybody. Lots of walking available, incredible huge beach with surfing possible, llamas & other animals, little railway, pedal cars & a fairly large children's play area shaped like a castle!! Also, John Muirs birthplace museum in Dunbar itself is genuinely fascinating.
Eyemouth isn't particularly nice in my opinion. It's a pretty fun down, but still running port with a couple of chip shops & pubs but not much else. The little village of St Abbs 10 minutes away is much nicer & worth a visit. Very popular for scuba diving, boat trips around the cliffs available, loads of walking on the cliff tops in a large National Trust nature reserve. Really interesting geology if that's your type of thing. Seashore safaris for the kids during summer. The visitor Centre is worth a stop in ax well!!
Plus, Glentress is about an hour and a half drive if you get a chance 🙂 and as has been mentioned you'd be close enough for day trips to Edinburgh!!
I spend about half of each year living & working in St Abbs!!

Another vote for St Abbs - lovely quiet location with great walking over the clifftops and a nice beach just round the cliffs at Coldingham. I've been past three years I've stayed at the Dive Lodge right in the harbour and if Scuba Diving is your thing it is superb - Paul who runs the dive boat runs a good show.
