I've been tasked with finding a campsite for a family holiday in North or Mid Wales. Plan is to spend a week doing beeches, mountains and castles.

Any suggestions?

Used to be very good, but haven't been there in more than a decade:

There are a few nice ones on the Llyn Peninsula as well - aberdaron area (but don't know the name of the site).

I've stopped at one on the south side of the Mawddach estuary opposite Barmouth - there's also this one which is reckoned to be good but I've not used it.

Can recommend Dinas
Dinas Campsite

Had a good week there last year with my daughter, stream, lake, woods, rope swings etc. on site for the kids to go wild. Plenty of space, OK toilets and showerblock. Every pitch has a firepit. Chickens wandering around.

We've been to this place quite a few times:

They allow you to have campfires on the lake shore, which s great of an evening.

Anyone camped at Tan-Y-Fron in Dolgellau in recent years? What's it like these days?

Stayed here a few years back in our camper van.

Good site for the kids, woods to play in, stream, train stops right by the campsite. I don't recall the facilities so they can't have been dire.

Shell island is a fantastic location but can be a bit shellsuit island / Wirral on sea during the holidays.

Vaenol at Tywyn is nicely located.

Walk to the beach. Walk to Tywyn for food. Holgates ice cream shop is just the other side of Tywyn.

Plenty of beaches and mountains nearby.

Aberdyfi beach not far away is miles and miles of beautiful sand and great for flying a kite and watching the kite boarders.

Not that far to drive to Harlech for castles etc.

Hmm, that sounds like Hugh F-W recipe.

It's a nice place, we only planned to stay a couple of days and planned to move on to Northern Snowdonia but landed up staying all week
