Family camping - what to sleep on?

Camping next week and we have no idea what to sleep on.

We have previously been using Coleman airbeds which I think cost £60 and keep going down. These were very comfortable but I don't want to spend this much again, on something that won't last.

I was thinking camp beds?

Cheers,

Mick

I got some cheap go outdoors air beds for the kids and a double for the Mrs and I. Kids ones have a built-in pump, go down slightly every day so we pump them up. No big deal. Much more comfortable and take up less space in the car than those self inflating mats

Fishing bed chairs.

Not cheap but comfort is worth ten times the price.

We've got a set of the Outwell Dreamcatchers now.  Absolute bliss compared to airbeds; things have definitely moved on in that sphere.  3-4" of loveliness and have lasted several years now.

Alpkit Dozer Double if money isn't a option. I have the single version and have spent many a comfy night under canvas.

for car camping and staying in pods we've got a couple of these

which I add a self inflating mat too.
Pretty comfy but they weigh a ton.

Remember you’ll need insulation underneath you with an air bed, eg a proper sleeping bag. I realise this is obvious advice, but it’s a mistake I made once!

On our first weekend with one of these, and it is amazeballs - unlike a normal airbed, you don't really roll together, and it's WAY comfier than a normal airbed too.

Otherwise, if you have two single airbeds, put an elasticated double bedsheet over them to minimise roll issues and insulate as required. 🙂

The budget but effective option is one of these or similar

Paired with a nice pillow from home.

I've been through a lot of options, but best of you have the space is decathlon blow up camping bed base
https://www.decathlon.co.uk/p/single-inflatable-camping-bed-base/_/R-p-309887
With 7.5cm SIM and 7.5cm memory foam mattress on top. Then need sheet, duvet (or double sleeping bag unzipped) and pillow😁
Match that to a fresh and black tent and you get a freaking awesome nights sleep!
