Hi,
We're planning to go camping for the last two weeks of August, in northern costal France, with our two children (5 & 7years old). Taking our car on the ferry with our camping equipment.
Any suggestions of areas/campsites would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks,
We went here:

Cant remember if there was camping camping but it was ace.
edit- yes you can camp, massive beach nearby (obvs) and a lovely walled town.
Look for municipals, much cheaper than the sites all the big companies are on, they'll be nice, well-placed, well-maintained and clean. Most of your fellow campers will be French too, which I rather like. 🙂
Brittany can be quite rainy, even in August ...
If your going on the ferry we stopped over here: Domaine Du Lieu Dieu near Dieppe.
Its a horsey place but some good trails in the local woods and we also did some kayaking on the lake. We actually stopped in a gypsy caravan which was good for a last night as it saved unpacking a tent and such before the rush for a ferry.
I usually avoid August in France (unless it's Paris which is empty) so don't usually book in advance as there are so many campsites. You can get a free book with them all listed and we play it by ear ... largely depending on the weather as August the storms/rain tends to be more localised and you can drive a bit and avoid completely if you include Brittany and Normandy,
Camping Sunelia near Benodet was good last year. Mainly decent weather too.
For anywhere on Atlantic coast I'd recommend trying to get as far down as possible on the ferry i.e. Caen / St Malo because driving through Normandy from Calais takes ages and isn't very interesting.

We stayed here last year. Lovely site run by a retired English couple.
